Multiple Open-Rank, Tenure-Track Faculty PositionsSid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering The George Mason University, Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering (CEIE), within the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), invites applications for one or more tenure-track faculty positions in sustainable structural engineering beginning Fall 2022. Senior candidates with established records of outstanding research and excellent teaching may be considered for tenured Associate Professor or Professor positions. Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; develop an independent, externally funded research program; advise students; participate in all aspects of the department's mission; serve the profession; and embrace and help advance the University's strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Required Qualifications:Applicants must have received a PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field by the start date of the position, and should have demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in research, and a commitment to high-quality teaching.Preferred Qualifications:We seek outstanding candidates working on sustainability and resilience of structural systems experiencing the negative effects of climate change. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to: use and modeling of innovative multi-functional and multi-scale materials, sustainable structural materials and systems, integration of physics-based and AI solutions for structural resilience, or climate risk and reliability analysis. A demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines in engineering, computing, and humanities is desirable. Mason provides faculty with unique opportunities to engage in transdisciplinary research through the Institute for a Sustainable Earth and the Institute for Digital Innovation, and we seek candidates who can leverage these resources. About the Department:Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering is a vibrant and fast-growing department, with a focus on transdisciplinary research with global impact. The department offers MS and PhD programs, in addition to an ABET-accredited BS degree. During the last 5 years, the department has experienced tremendous growth in new research awards, and in enrollment in the PhD program. Total enrollment across all degrees in CEIE has increased to 400 students. The Volgenau School of Engineering is committed to significant investment in expansion of the department faculty and to double the current size within 5-10 years with a focus on research excellence. The department has an enviable and strong relationship with industry, including over 30 companies and individuals working in partnership as the Civil Engineering Institute (http://civil.gmu.edu/about-cei), a unique organization formed to support the mission and vision of the department.
