Payroll Accountant The George Mason University Human Resources & Payroll Department, Payroll Team, is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for a Payroll Accountant job opening.The Payroll team supports the mission of the University through the development and implementation of policies, programs and practices that attract, compensate, retain, and reward faculty and staff.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment. About the Position: The incumbent is responsible for reconciling payroll liability accounts monthly and collaborating with the appropriate persons to resolve discrepancies at the end of each month and/or before the end of the fiscal year. The incumbent is responsible for managing the tuition waiver and deferred pay accrual processes, notifying employees, tracking taxable amounts, and updating the payroll system for accuracy and year-end W2 reporting. The incumbent is responsible for submitting monthly reports upon request and ensure that all payroll procedures are current and up to date, assist with internal and external audit requests, serve as back-up to the payroll accountant, and other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:Demonstrate the ability to work independently, apply analytical techniques and follow through to resolution;Demonstrate the ability to work in a faced paced and high volume environment with competing priorities;Strong organizational, interpersonal skills and attention to detail; The ability to work with other departments to resolve issues;Ability to work effectively in a team environment;Knowledge of accounting principles, policies and procedures, with emphasis on payroll accounting; andExperience using payroll systems, Microsoft products, email and internet required. Preferred Qualifications:College degree in Accounting preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience; andDemonstrated experience in account reconciliations in a medium to large organization, benefits accounting experience preferred.
