Budget Analyst The George Mason University Office of Strategic Budget and Planning invites applications for a Budget Analyst position. About the Position: The Office of Strategic Budgeting and Planning (OSBP) has an exciting opportunity for a Budget Analyst that has strong financial analysis, financial monitoring and financial reporting experience. This individual must demonstrate initiative and innovation for changes and improvements. This individual must also possess excellent critical thinking, analytical and communication skills (verbal and written).As the OSBP continues to strengthen University financial relationships, this individual will serve as the OSBP's liaison with various University contacts to provide financial assistance and support. Responsibilities: Analyze and monitor all operating funds to ensure data accuracy; Complete monthly financial analysis to monitor the budget to actuals, compensation and other funds; Review and fully understand units' trends to provide assistance with forecasting; Monitor budget processes, including Position Control and Maintenance, budget allocations and transfers for all funds including E & G (academic/ non- academic); Auxiliary Enterprises; Sponsored Research, Indirect, Other Funds and University operating and capital reserves; Maintain the monthly allocation of department funding and review transactions to ensure accuracy with great attention to detail; Provide reports and analysis to department managers in support of administrative and operating activities; Support the development and submission of the quarterly forecasts and annual budget; Create detailed reports and queries by using software tools such as Excel, Microstrategy, Tableau, and other financial and budgeting tools; Process budget and actual journals in Banner, as needed; Attend training sessions and meetings to stay apprised of University policy and procedure changes. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Familiarity with ERPs, specifically Banner; Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to maintain positive, collegial relationships with colleagues and University contacts. Preferred Qualifications: Government or fund accounting experience.
