Applications AdministratorThe George Mason University Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the position of Applications Administrator. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (OIEP) is seeking an Applications Administrator to provide support to enterprise-wide solutions and tools.Provide environments that are reliable, available, and secure; Implement standards, policies, and procedures to achieve agreed upon service levels by maintaining and supporting a breadth of application infrastructure;Provide alternative work-around solutions to meet business requirements, based on technical feasibility; and Utilize expertise to maintain, monitor, and gather data for reporting and performance purposes.Responsibilities:Application AdministrationMonitor software applications, and document and analyze problems;Process automation;Develop test plans to verify logic of new or modified applications;Plan, coordinate, test, and communicate changes, upgrades/maintenance schedules, and new services with IT and clients, ensuring business operations will operate correctly in current and future environments;Set up administrator and service accounts;Work with vendors to address and resolve problems;Work with customers to address and resolve requests and incidents;Review the governing regulations to ensure proper program support;Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies and business processes; andMaintain system documentation.Application IntegrationCoordinate with development teams to identify needs and work with network engineers, system administrators, database administrators to design application server environments;Work with IT to ensure proper integration of applications;Work closely with vendors to tune and troubleshoot problems;Work closely with IT, OIEP, and other functional offices to ensure appropriate controls and audit logs are in place; andProvide alternative work-around solutions to meet business requirements, based on technical feasibility.Technical SupportAssist OIEP staff with computer updates and other technical needs including the maintenance and documentation of all OIEP computers; andAttend relevant meetings with ITS.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in an IT related field or discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience;IT experience and/or application administration experience;Demonstrated ability to be the subject matter expert in supporting, maintaining, and administering complex applications; Hands‐on experience in process automation, best practice approach, technology efficiency, and effectiveness;Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service, be a good listener and work well with a diverse group of customers and IT;Experience working with vendor customer support on issue resolution;Experience with upgrading software applications;Excellent problem solving/analytical skills, knowledge of analytical tools, and complex troubleshooting methods;Ability to work through ambiguous work situations; Excellent verbal and written communication skills;Self‐motivated, able to work both independently and closely with a team. Takes initiative;Ability to multitask in a fast‐paced environment; andOutstanding attention to detail with superior time and project management skills. Preferred Qualifications:Experience in higher education;At least 2 years of IT experience and/or application administration experience;Experience with version control systems and processes, performance tuning, hardware platforms, infrastructure systems development, and integration processes; andExperience with Microsoft SharePoint.
