Research Director The Gray Center is the nation's leader for research on the intersection of constitutional law and the administrative state, and it is seeking a Research Director to help lead our scholarly initiatives.Each year, the Gray Center undertakes a variety of programs, from private research roundtables to public policy conferences, to incubate and debate new papers on constitutional law, administrative law, and regulatory policy. Our participants include academics, judges, policymakers, and practitioners. The Research Director will work with the Center's leadership to build these programs from the ground up: identifying important issues; recruiting authors, speakers, and other participants; and managing all other aspects of our research programs. The Research Director will also work closely with the Center's leadership on their own research activities. This is an ideal role for someone interested in constitutional law, the administrative state, regulatory policy, and the broader world of ideas and policy.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment. Responsibilities: Building Research Roundtables by identifying and researching topics and recruiting authors and discussants;Organizing topics and speakers for Public Policy Conferences. The Research Director will also draft and edit promotional materials for the conferences, including the web site, emails, and brochures;The Research Director manages the Center's Policy Briefs. These are written by expert authors from around the country, but often the Research Director will need to edit of the papers for content, as well as for form and style;The Research Director will support the Center's Executive Directors in their research; andThe Research Director will contribute content to the Center's various media, including newsletter, tweets, annual reports and podcasts. Required Qualifications: JD/Masters degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Law, political science or another field closely related to public administration or administrative law;Excellent organizational skills, with the proven ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities effectively;Self-starter, highly motivated and detail oriented;Ability to interact with people at all levels, including high-level officials in government and academia, in a professional manner and in different settings;Excellent written and oral communication skills;Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings (when the Center has events); andExperience with Microsoft Office suite as well as strong database experience.
