About the CBP:

The Community Business Partnership (CBP) is an independent not-for-profit corporation that is part of George Mason University's Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development. Every day, staff at the Community Business Partnership (CBP) make a difference in the economy of Northern Virginia! In 2019, CBP's fourteen member staff and two dozen volunteers created 317 business training events with 3,854 attendees. These events led to over 673 individuals receiving almost 1,000 hours of one-on-one business counseling. Those activities resulted in 56 new businesses as well as the creation/retention of over 600 jobs.

The CBP hosts a Veterans Business Outreach Center, a Women's Business Center, a Small Business Development Center, a Business Finance Center, a Business Incubation Center, and a Community Development Financial Institute in a single location. The CBP delivers entrepreneurial skills training and provides specialized support services, including one-on-one counseling services, networking events, three small business conferences annually, extensive referral network, small business incubator services, and access to capital.

About the Position:

The Administrative Assistant provides primary support to Community Business Partnership (CBP) staff, clients, and resident and virtual incubator clients.


  • General receptionist work (15%) including welcoming visitors, directing them to services, and answering general inquiries about CBP services;
  • Front office operations (20%) including mail sorting, entering client data, and maintain volunteer appointment times and scheduling;
  • Provide General Administrative Support to CBP Staff (10%) including photocopying or scanning documents, organizing workshop/class materials, onboarding activities, and scheduling meetings;
  • Provide Support for the CBP Board of Directors (5%) including the scheduling and recording of Board meetings;
  • Assist CBP staff by providing support for their events (10%) including support for virtual or in person workshops and training for instructors and volunteers;
  • Provide Support for CBP's Fiscal Administration (20%) including organizing credit card statements, collecting financial forms, and processing reoccurring vendor payment requests; and
  • Provide Support for CBP's Incubator Administration (20%) including maintaining the room reservation schedule, monitor kitchen and office inventories, and oversee listings of virtual and onsite incubator tenants.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish;
  • Ability to provide onsite support at the CBP (6564 Loisdale Court, Springfield, VA);
  • Ability to provide onsite support at the CBP Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30am-5:00pm;
  • Experience providing outstanding customer service to both external clients and internal staff;
  • Demonstrates an understanding and respect for people of all backgrounds;
  • Superior organizational skills as well as accuracy and attention to details;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word;
  • Self starter that requires little supervision and exercises sound judgment;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; and
  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality when dealing with both external clients and internal staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
