HR & Payroll Communications Specialist

The George Mason University, HR & Payroll Department is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for a HR & Payroll Communications Specialist job opening.

About the Position:

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for:
  • Assisting with development and implementation of strategic marketing and communications programs;
  • Coordinating messaging for the HR/Payroll teams; and
  • Disseminating HR & Payroll information to the University community in easy-to-understand language with a friendly and professional tone.


Required Qualifications:


  • Strong writing and editing skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs;
  • Experience making website updates with Wordpress or similar content management systems;
  • Social media experience;
  • Experience with creating graphics on platforms like Canva or other similar platforms;
  • Effective interpersonal communication and customer service skills, including tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality;
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks;
  • Ability to translate technical policies into language and tone which is easily understood by our customers in a friendly and professional tone;
  • Collaborates and works well with diverse individuals with differing needs; and
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience, preferably in writing, journalism, communications, marketing or other applicable program.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated experience in communications or marketing (1-3 years preferred);
  • Higher education experience preferred; and
  • Human Resources experience preferred.
