MA (COVID Team Support) This is a restricted position funded through COVID Response Funding, and the position is dependent upon funding continuation. The George Mason University, Student Health Services Department invites applications for a Medical Assistant, COVID Team Support position. About the Department: Student Health Services (SHS) provides health care services at George Mason University. SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at George Mason University, including but not limited to initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provide services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis. About the Position: The COVID Team MA is a key member of the COVID Response Team. Their role aids in the preparation and set up of all sampling/testing, collecting patient samples for COVID19 testing, and ensuring specimen samples and collection activities are documented properly. The scheduling for this position occurs Monday-Friday, with possible weekend rotations. Responsibilities: COVID19 Testing Site Procedures: Aids in preparation and set up of all sampling/testing sites primarily located outside unless inclement weather requires indoor testingEnsures PPE and Safety precautions are demonstrated and in effect at all timesEnsures all specimen samples and collection activities are documented properlyCOVID19 Testing and Sampling : Performs curbside and/or mobile sampling/testing for COVID and non-COVID specimen Collects samples from patients for COVID19 screening in either role of Clean Sampler or Dirty SamplerClean Sampler role handles all non-infectious surfaces throughout sampling process; stays at a distance from patient, attired in full PPE protective gown, gloves, N95 or procedure mask, and face shieldDirty Sampler role interacts with patient to collection registration form, verbal consent, and obtains Nasal swab from patient. Attired in full PPE of protective gown, gloves, N95 mask and face shieldDemonstrates PPE and Safety precautions at all times Lab Responsibilities: Assists with using required laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplaceUses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazard materials, including blood-borne pathogensStores, handles and /or disposes of hazardous materials. Uses cleaning agents, products and equipment to alleviate the spread of infectious diseaseCompletes all Laboratory and MTS competencies as requiredRequired Qualifications: Medical Assistant certification or equivocal medical/first responder training and experience (for example, but not limited to EMT, Paramedic, Military Medic, etc.) At least one year of medical office experience in a hospital, outpatient medical practice, or other health care setting Basic understanding of medical terminology Basic computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft office, Excel and Outlook Excellent communication and organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously Knowledge of Electronic Medical RecordsHigh School Diploma or GEDPreferred Qualifications: AAMA or AMT certificationExperience and knowledge of unique needs of a college student Basic knowledge of Adolescent and Adult Immunization requirements Experience with administering EKGs Experience with administering nebulizer treatments Experience in payment handling, patient check-in and patient out procedures Ability to prioritize and to facilitate collaboration & team work Healthcare Provider BLS certification
