LifeguardThe George Mason University, Mason Recreation Department invites applications for the Lifeguard position. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About Mason Recreation:Mason Recreation oversees three facilities on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University including the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC), the Aquatic Fitness Center (AFC), and Skyline fitness center. These facilities boast four gymnasiums, racquetball/ squash courts, several locker rooms, fitness galleries and dedicated rooms for yoga, cycling, group exercise, and marital arts/ self-defense classes. We house and maintain a recreation and competition pool, sauna, whirlpool, and several exterior facilities including a pavilion, turf and grass fields, jogging/ walking trails, and a team challenge course on our Science and Technology Campus. We provide the following programs and services for the campus community: Fitness, Aquatics, Outdoor Adventures, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, the EDGE (team building programming), as well as a Summer Youth Camp. About the Position:The Safety Instructor position plays a significant role of the aquatic program at the Aquatic and Fitness Center, George Mason University Campus, and community at large. Under the supervision of the Coordinator for Aquatics, the Safety Instructor will teach American Red Cross CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding courses in a safe and pleasant environment for the participants. Responsibilities: Ensure the safety of class participants through consistent and equitable enforcement of George Mason University Aquatic and Fitness Center policies and procedures;Teach according to American Red Cross Health and Safety Services program and following the guidelines of George Mason University Recreation and University Life;Arrive on time prepared to instruct;Maintain an acceptable level of knowledge through a personal commitment to learning new information and instructional techniques; Be a positive representative of University Life and the Department of Recreation;Attend all Safety Instructor meetings;Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner;Wear appropriate uniform;Set-up and clean-up for class. Required Qualifications: Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Lay Responder Instructor, or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider Instructor;Able to work an average of of 3 classes a month;Excellent communication skills;Customer service skills;Willingness to learn and grow;Enjoy and appreciate Health, Fitness and or Wellness.
