Assistant Lab Manager, Clinical Proteomics Lab The George Mason University, Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine in the College of Science invites well-qualified candidates to apply for an Assistant Lab Manager position in the Clinical Proteomics Lab. About the Position: This position is in the clinical proteomics laboratory to provide diagnostic testing and proteomic research. This is a laboratory testing and administrative position, with varying amounts of bench work and administrative duties depending on the projects. The Assistant Lab Manager will work somewhat independently to design, organize, and conduct high complexity testing using established protocols and procedures, and in some cases, design new protocols. Considering the nature of diagnostic testing and research, the position requires an individual who has demonstrated proficiency in laboratory skills, data analysis, and management. Applicants must have the ability to perform high-complexity laboratory testing, including qRT-PCR, ELISA, and manual pipetting. Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist certification (ASCP) or Good Laboratory Practice experience is desirable. The selected candidate is expected to be open to learning new techniques and working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. The duration of the appointment is dependent on satisfactory performance and continuation of funding. Responsibilities: Responsibilities include diagnostic testing, staff scheduling, inventory, reagent preparation, quality control, quality improvement, and research and development activities commensurate with a MS level. Specific tasks include qRT-PCR, ELISA, specimen processing, data analysis, training new employees, troubleshooting, competency assessments, staff scheduling, and quality improvement activities. The Assistant Lab Manager will also communicate daily operational issues with staff, consultants, laboratory director, and medical director. Required Qualifications: * Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available for this position; * Completion of a BA/BS in biochemistry, biological science, or related field, prior to the start date in the position; * Board certification as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist; * 3 years' experience in clinical laboratory operations and proficiency testing; * Experience in qRT-PCR, and laboratory management; * Proficiency in data analysis using Excel or spreadsheet applications; * Proficiency in the use of personal computer, word-processing applications; * Demonstrated scientific writing ability; * Excellent communication skills in oral and written English. Preferred Qualifications: * MS or PhD in biochemistry, biological science, or related field; * Knowledge of method validation and verification for laboratory developed tests; * Board certification as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist; * Knowledge of CAP/CLIA guidelines and regulations; * Knowledge of western blotting, cell culture, or immunohistochemistry; * Experience with robotic liquid handling; * A strong background in statistical analysis and/or bioinformatics is desirable.
