Communications Assistant

The George Mason University Law and Economics Center (LEC), within the Antonin Scalia Law School, is searching for a Communications Assistant. About the Center:

The Law and Economics Center (LEC ) of the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School is a national center for research and education that focuses on the timely and relevant economic analysis of legal and public policy issues.

About the Position:

The LEC seeks a self-motivated and detailed Communications Assistant whose primary responsibilities will include the maintenance and effective deployment of the LEC website and the LEC contact engagement databases and software (Cvent). This includes creating program sites, updating records, undertaking quality-control measures, to build event registration sites and send email communication. The position will assume management of these tools over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and send e-newsletters and emails;
  • Edit and post video and audio clips;
  • Manage Facebook and Twitter accounts with an eye toward curating engaging content and building community;
  • Manage LEC's photo library and conduct photo searches using external sources for use in our publications;
  • Provide general support to LEC's events team on conferences (including taking pictures), publications, media outreach, and other areas as needed;
  • Responsible for a wide range of other web-based, multimedia, writing, social media, and administrative assignments as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with demonstrated relevant work experience;
  • Strong interest in web-based communication and engagement (in both content creation and technical aspects);
  • Flexibility; proven ability to work on a team; outstanding organization and time-management skills; exacting attention to detail; cool-headedness in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style strongly preferred;
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe; familiarity with website content-management systems (HTML required, Cvent and CSS skills an advantage); familiarity with contact databases and email campaigns a strong advantage;
  • Audio/video software skills a strong plus;
  • Experience using social media for organizational outreach;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to LEC's mission, vision, and values.
