Social Work Assistant Director of Field EducationThe George Mason University, Department of Social Work, invites applications for two full-time, 12-month, administrative faculty positions as Assistant Director of Field Education. The mission of Mason's Department of Social Work is to prepare future social workers to be effective leaders, scholars, and practitioners who have the necessary tools to promote human well-being by ensuring economic and social justice, as well as human rights for all. Mason has two other satellite campuses in Arlington and Manassas, Virginia.About the Department:The Department of Social Work has internationally recognized faculty for their expertise in areas of behavioral health, older adults, children and youth, and immigration, with a proud history of faculty-student-community research collaborations. The Department of Social Work offers BSW and MSW degree programs with an educational and research mission focusing on practice and policy interventions that improve health and well-being and promote economic and social justice, particularly for underserved individuals, families, and communities. It has just launched a highly-enrolled online MSW degree program, and is building a PhD degree. The Department comprises 20 faculty and serves approximately 200 BSW and 400 MSW students. The Department enjoys its location 15 miles from Washington, DC, which allows student internship opportunities at some of the country's most sought-after national, government, and community field sites. Further information about the Department may be found at: https://socialwork.gmu.edu/Responsibilities:Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Field Education, the Assistant Directors of Field Education will provide a variety of educational services for BSW, MSW on-campus, and MSW online students and will have operational and management responsibility of placing and managing social work field placements in community agencies for their field practicum. The Assistant Director of Field Education will recruit, assess, and work with community agencies that provide appropriate practicum opportunities as set forth by our accrediting body, the Council on Social Work Education. Major responsibilities include:Assist the Director of Field Education in training and support of Field Liaisons, Field Instructors, and students;Database management of student and agency information;Conduct student interviews to make appropriate match to field practicum agency;Recruitment and development of new agencies to host social work Field Education students;Assist the Director of Field Education in the field seminar curriculum development;Assist with student orientation, field faculty, and field instructor trainings;Provide support to field faculty (Field Liaisons);Teach one Field Education seminar per semester from BSW, MSW on-campus, and MSW online programs;Adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics;Participate in departmental activities through committees and may participate in a variety of other professional activities based upon the college and university's needs and the professional's unique skill set.Required Qualifications:MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program with a minimum of 5-7 years of full-time post-MSW direct social work experience;Extensive experience in field education in academic settings;Knowledge of CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards;Solid administrative, leadership, management, and supervisory knowledge and skills;Organizational, time management, and detail-oriented abilities;Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills;Ability to engage and work with diverse stakeholders in the department, college, university, and larger community;Knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database capabilities;Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a diverse student population;A professional social work identity with accompanying values and ethics.Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of three years as field instructor in agency-based practice with previous experience in social work field education.
