Summary/Objective:

The Tax Accountant will provide comprehensive and hands-on support to the Tax Department in order to drive operating efficiencies and ensure accurate preparation and filing of the Company’s taxes for multiple entities across the United States and Canada. In addition, this position will be responsible for taking the tax team to greater performance, creating and implementing tax plans, work with Accounting teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and areas of potential risk, and monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make appropriate updates to Company policies and tax rates. This position will report directly to the Tax Manager (Tax Department).

Essential Functions:

Ø  Responsible for facilitating and reviewing the preparation and filing of all Sales and Use tax returns for multiple U.S. and Canadian entities. This would include Sales & Use Taxes, Personal Property Taxes, Franchise and Corporation Taxes, and other Business‐related Taxes using Software.

Ø  Work with outside tax accounting firms to ensure timely filing of returns for Income and Property Tax

Ø  Research various sales tax matters for US/Canada issues

Ø  Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process; make improvements and/or recommendations when needed

Ø  Prepare sales tax registrations as needed

Ø  Manage and facilitate State tax audits

Ø  Conduct Use Tax Analysis and implement opportunities for process improvement

Ø  Complete special tax projects as needed

Ø  Conduct research to identify any tax-savings opportunities

Ø  Prepare Balance Sheet Reconciliations for Tax-related General Ledger accounts for month‐end and year‐end closings and ensure completeness and accuracy

Ø  Develop good working relationships with business units and accounting peers to effectively and efficiently complete tax projects and to identify sales tax issues

Ø  Manage project of acquiring and implementing sales tax engine

Ø  Perform ad hoc reporting and projects as needed

Ø  Other duties as assigned by manager

Skills/Knowledge:

Ø  The ability to work both independently and among cross-functional teams with minimal supervision, ability to juggle multiple tasks, successfully manage multiple projects, and effectively prioritize assigned job duties to meet deadlines and objectives

Ø  Dynamic and positive attitude to support our culture and work environment and foster positive working relationships with others in the organization

Ø  Strong technical skills, to include advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with particular emphasis on advanced Excel capabilities; proficient in Tax software

Ø  Ability to handle and resolve conflict, work under pressure/deal with high pressure scenarios, and resolve

issues with clients, customers, peers and direct reports, and do so while exercising sound judgement.

Ø  Strong business acumen with desire to make positive impact on the business

Ø  Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Ø  Experience with SAP software preferred

Ø  Excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation, organization, time management, and follow-up skills

Experience/Education:

Ø  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Ø  Minimum of 2-4 (two to four) years of successful tax and accounting experience with Tax Software use of Sales and Use Tax (Vertex).

Ø  Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local tax reporting requirements for both the United States

Ø  Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills

 

Environment and Scheduling:

Ø  This is a full-time position, non-exempt position.

Ø  This position will work from the Support Center in Ashburn, VA.

Ø  Days and hours of work may vary and are dependent upon the hours mutually agreed upon with the manager. Work on Holidays and weekends may be required.
