Sr. Associate, Product Management, Card Transaction Fraud

Fraud - when a customer's credit card or personal information is stolen - is a defining and increasingly frequent moment in our customers' financial lives. According to Experian, in 2017 alone 14 million credit card numbers and 158 million social security numbers were exposed. Increasingly, this type of activity is carried out by sophisticated international criminal organizations, who are constantly innovating and using the latest technologies to commit these crimes.

Here on the Transaction Fraud Models and Infrastructure team, we counter their efforts with real-time, automated, and intelligent technology of our own. Our mission is to harness the power of advanced cloud computing and machine learning to create efficient, resilient defenses to combat fraud. We do that primarily through discovery and delivery of new risk-splitting data features, while ensuring we have the top-flight capabilities and controls in place needed to deploy enhancements quickly and safely.

This product manager will partner with data science, business intent, and technology teams to determine the optimal set of features, infrastructural innovations, and modeling techniques to drive improved customer experience and business performance.

What you'll do:
  • Work closely with engineers, data scientists, and business partners to identify high-leverage modeling and platform enhancements
  • Develop roadmap to deliver exceptionally flexible, value-generative, well-governed machine learning infrastructure for fraud
  • Refine the vision and leverage a team of engineers to execute accordingly
  • Spend time with data scientists, business analysts, and fraud leadership to deeply understand their pain points and key goals, and then incorporate the resulting understanding into the product vision and roadmap
  • Partner with data scientists to define KPI and enhance automated monitoring of those metrics
  • Engage in technical discovery, grooming, and strategy conversations with engineering team to determine ideal design choices
  • Build relationships with other teams leveraging machine learning at Capital One to discover opportunities for extensibility and collaboration
  • Work alongside your engineering team with technologies, including our Streaming Data Platform, Spark, and Kubernetes, among others

What you'll bring:
  • A drive toward action and a proven track record of delivering minimum viable products to market at rapid speed
  • An understanding of and reverence for data and technical products
  • Excellent communication skills to navigate a matrixed organization, tell compelling stories with ease to senior executives, and inspire teams about things that should exist but don't yet
  • Ability to proactively identify impediments on the critical path and remove them
  • A structured problem-solving approach to help a team work through a wide range of issues
  • Intellectual curiosity about emerging technologies and engineering challenges
  • Ability to prioritize across different types of value dimensions
  • Ability to actively seek out multiple opinions, yet make independent decisions and influence positive outcomes

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or military experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in product management, business analysis, data science, or software engineering

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience managing products from inception to production
  • 2+ years of experience in shipping product
  • 1+ years of experience in platform management, software development, data technologies or AWS
