Overview

AARP Foundation serves vulnerable people 50 and older by creating and advancing effective solutions that help them secure the essentials. For 57 years, we have aided America's poor and isolated seniors. As AARP's charitable affiliate, we serve AARP members and nonmembers alike. We're tackling senior poverty by sparking bold, innovative solutions that help vulnerable older adults build economic opportunity and social connectedness - fostering resilience, strengthening communities, and restoring hope. Operating at the intersection of collaboration, innovation, legal advocacy, and grantmaking, we bring together industry, government, activists, and volunteers to forge practical approaches that pair brainpower with some serious willpower.

AARP Foundation Experience Corps is an intergenerational volunteer-based tutoring program that is proven to help children who aren't reading at grade level become great readers by the end of third grade. We inspire and empower adults age 50 and older to serve in their community and disrupt the cycle of poverty by making a lasting difference in the lives of America's most vulnerable children. The program is a triple win for students, volunteers, and schools.

AARP Foundation Experience Corps is seeking a creative, motivated, and energetic intern in Washington, DC. The position will work across the program with the Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement Manager to create, edit and manage digital content to engage our nationwide community of staff, volunteers, and strategic partners. Candidates should possess an interest and familiarity with communications, marketing, web and digital content management, and nonprofit management. This will be an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain experience in a fast-paced, innovative nonprofit environment. Internship start and end dates are flexible.

  • Format communications and other materials such as slide decks, letters, web pages, emails, etc., consistent with AARP and AARP Foundation branding guidelines in support of various projects and events across the headquarters teams

What you will experience:
  • Practical experience with current digital communications and marketing practices
  • Shadowing, mentoring, and training opportunities with successful nonprofit professionals
  • Opportunity to participate in networking events and organization meetings
  • Gain familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 collaboration tools and document storage
