Duties

As a Stationary Engineer, you will:
  • Operate and maintain sub-stations, high tension transformers and rectifiers to provide adequate electrical power distribution at all times. (Note: Alternating current is obtained from the DCF's electrical power provider at a primary voltage of 13,800. It is then transformed down to meet various voltage requirements.)
  • Operate and repair and, perform scheduled preventative maintenance on a large number of varied application ventilation systems. (Note: This includes mechanical components, fans, filters, heaters and associated electrical (analog/digital) and pneumatic controls necessary for proper operation.)
  • Operate and repair, and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on air conditioning systems ranging in size from one-half to 2000-ton capacities. (Note: Incumbent is responsible for the control of temperature, humidity, and proper air distribution in all areas of the Main and the Annex buildings.)
  • Operate equipment on a 7-day, 24-hour, 365-daya year schedule, as a member of the Power Plant staff, in order to maintain required conditions.
  • Check temperature, humidity, air flow and makes necessary adjustments or repairs to analog, digital (DDC), electronic and/or pneumatic controls.
  • Make periodic inspection of all operating equipment.

Physical Requirements: The work requires extensive walking, standing, crawling, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 80 pounds. The incumbent must be able to work from ladders in cramped positions and in confined spaces.     • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    • A one year probationary period may be required.
    • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
    • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

    • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
    • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
    • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
    • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
    • Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
    • As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by November 22, 2021 or before appointment or onboarding with the agency, if after November 22. The agency will provide additional information regarding what information or documentation will be needed and how you can request of the agency a legally required exception from this requirement.
