Full Time

  • You will perform duties requiring an electron microscopy technologist certification, and experience in the anatomical disciplines of gross anatomy, histology, immunohistochemistry, histopathology, ultrastructure and ultrastructural pathology.
  • You will prepare small laboratory animals for experimentation.
  • You will identify, problem solve and implement corrective actions to eliminate or reduce sample fixation, processing and sectioning artifacts for histology, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.
  • You will revise standard methods to improve or extend test and study systems.
  • You will perform user maintenance and repair on electron microscopes as well as supporting instrumentation and equipment.
  • You will perform oral and written communications with the ability to prepare and present scientific and technical reports

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Serving as a Biologist- Electron Microscopic, collaborating with scientists in the planning and execution of research projects to study morphological, biochemical, and pathological problems associated with various infectious, metabolic, and traumatic conditions;
  • Applying, a wide range of concepts, principles, practices and methodology in the field of biology combined with an understanding of the principles of electron microscopy, anatomical, immunological and pathological sciences or disciplines (i.e. histopathology, histochemistry, Immunohistochemistry, and ultrastructure microanalysis);
  • Modifying or adapting experiments and developing conclusions that will result in scientific test or study finding, developments, and advances in techniques; and
  • Keeping records of all experimental data in approved laboratory notebooks and/or database applications.

FOR GS-09: SUCCESSFUL completion of a Master's degree or two full years of graduate education.
