As an Authorization Analyst, within the Optum's dedicated Maryland Medicaid Behavioral Health team you serve as the subject matter expert, using both clinical and strong technical skills. You will work interdependently with internal teams, external partners, and vendors in a manner consistent with the highest levels of performance and professionalism to accomplish critical tasks . If you are located in Maryland, you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities: Serve as the subject matter expert in the technical aspects of authorizations Understand how system behaves under various circumstances related to authorizations Understand clinical best practices for various behavioral health treatments offered within the Public Behavioral Health System Work as part of an authorization issues team troubleshooting authorization problems Educate internal and external partners on system functionality as it relates to behavioral health authorizations Document customer or client reporting and script requirements through clear, unambiguous, concise, and effective written and oral communication Develop, enhance and maintain workflows and processes Assist with testing system requirements analysis and verification (will require working some weekends and evenings) Assist senior team members with organizing ongoing projects, representing the teams' needs to the external system vendor Maintains a high attention to detail with an eye towards quality Maintain regular/daily communication with the team and manager You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in area of Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage or Family Counseling 2+ years of demonstrated experience in a related behavioral health environment preferably outpatient services Experience developing report specifications then analyzing, compiling, and presenting data to management team and external partners MS Office Expert (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Internet) Distraction-free space in home to use as a home office Access to high-speed internet (DSL or Cable) Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree - Clinician in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage or Family Counseling Current, unrestricted license to practice in the state of Maryland Utilization review/managed care experience Solid customer service skills UnitedHealth Group requires all new hires and employees to report their COVID-19 vaccination status.
