The Washington Post Director of Product & Solutions Marketing is a crucial member of the team. This position carries responsibility for developing positioning for brands, publishers, and the industry at large when it comes to the vast array of solutions The Washington Post offers. The director leads a team responsible for working directly with product and editorial stakeholders as well as with sales leadership to create sales collateral and market positioning that resonates with the marketplace. This position will demand a strong mix of marketing, business, technology and communication/collaboration skills and the ability to thrive in a start-up yet leverage the assets of a large organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with sales, operational and creative leadership to prioritize, develop, position and execute against editorial & sponsorship opportunities and regularly evaluate efficacy.
  • Lead a team responsible for crafting sales materials inclusive of general presentations, industry core decks, case studies and product one-sheets in close collaboration with sales and creative leads.
  • Work closely with cross department divisions including but not limited to The Washington Post Creative Group and the Commercial Team to ensure products and their roadmaps are being positioned in a manner that can easily and effectively be incorporated into advertiser specific proposals.
  • Assess the totality of The Post's vast spectrum of product offerings and craft an overarching narrative that demonstrates how our approach to product & solutions development is unique and mapped to our mission.
  • Develop strong cross functional communication channels within Client Solutions as well as across the wider organization to facilitate transparency and trust that results in stronger product and solutions offerings.
  • Act as an external expert for The Washington Post's B2B product & solutions by presenting to our brand and agency partners.
  • Help influence product development across existing and emerging products by bringing market trends and expertise to internal stakeholder functions
  • Navigate the complexities of a multi-market sales division and the needs that are unique to each team
  • Anticipate stakeholder needs, and develop and discuss potential solutions, even before the stakeholder realizes they are required
  • Build trust with teams and stakeholders through open and honest conversation
  • Coach your team to get the best feedback from sellers and product stakeholders in order to optimize offerings and sales efficacy
  • Work closely with PR/Communications to ensure product launches and sponsorships are achieving visibility within the trade media.


Requirements:
  • Experience working with a newsroom and within a news organization
  • 10+ years of marketing and/or sales experience (as a minimum)
  • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills (written, verbal and visual) with demonstrable ability to craft compelling narratives in the form of presentations and one-sheets.
  • Brand marketing, product launch, development and operational experience highly preferred
  • Deep knowledge and experience using data, research and consumer insights to inform product development, strategy, prioritization and positioning to drive sales efficacy
  • Experience in a leadership role where you've led a team
  • Strong strategic thinker with ability to connect ideas and new product development opportunities across current and future products, technologies and innovative platforms
  • Demonstrable presentation and writing skills that would persuade even the most skeptical of people
  • Proven project management and stellar self-discipline abilities
  • Demonstrate key skills: persuasiveness, analytical skills, clear and proactive communication, ability to multitask, patience in times of frustration, speed in task accomplishment, and resilience
  • Understanding of the news and ad tech landscape is highly desired
