Duties

  • Repair and switch high voltage circuits in sub stations
  • Install new breakers in electrical panels
  • Install new and repair electrical circuits
  • Troubleshoot and repair motor controls on single phase and three phase motors
  • Troubleshoot and repair lighting fixtures, ballast switches 120 volt up to 277 volt

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Pursuant to EO 14043, all Federal employees, regardless of duty location or work arrangement, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by November 22, 2021, or before entrance on duty if after November 22, subject to exceptions as required by law.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic (MVO)~ without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Employee frequently works from stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch and work in awkward and cramped positions when welding in hard-to-reach or confined spaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and over 45 pounds with assistance. May be required to exert very heavy physical effort lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms); operating power equipment and tools.
  • MVO Physical Effort: Includes reaching, bending turning and moving. Frequently handles objects up to 40 lbs. Moderate physical effort in such tasks as coupling and towing equipment, changing tires, operating, turning and controlling vehicles.
  • Working Conditions: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, in hard to reach places, and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, smoky, exposed to temperature extremes, drafts, dust and dirt. Worker may be exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, and electric shock and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves and flash shield or eye goggles and other equipment as required.
  • MVO Working Conditions: Operators drive in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
