Duties

As an IT Specialist (NETWORK), you will:

- Serve as a technical lead in managing the operations and maintenance of a variety of systems and projects which include hardware, software, account management, and network infrastructure.
- Plan and coordinate the efforts of a technical team and may serve as lead facilitator in providing recommendations in local and wide area networking.
- Perform analysis on the performance of network attached equipment throughout the agency to include analyzing data traffic, network bandwidth capacity, system performance, storage capacity, and the overall effect any modifications will have to internal systems.
- Administer server environments, virtual environments, and storage environments, and network infrastructure.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.     You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized Experience for GS-13: To qualify at GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade/band (GS-12 or equivalent) in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is defined as experience:
    - Providing technical leadership for the agency server or network environment, working with a specialized set of complex, multifaceted information management systems; AND
    - Serving as a technical lead in managing the operations and maintenance of a variety of systems and projects which include hardware, software, account management, and network infrastructure.; AND
    - Working with customers to develop requirements and analyzes, reviews, and makes recommendations concerning the technical feasibility of user requirements and their suitability for integration within existing or planned enterprise architecture.


    OR

    Specialized Experience for GS-12: To qualify at GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade/band (GS-11 or equivalent) in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is defined as experience:
    - Providing system support for the agency server or network environment, working with a variety of multifaceted information management systems; AND
    - Serving as a system or network administrator in managing the operations and maintenance of a variety of systems and projects which include hardware, software, account management, and network infrastructure.


    In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

    1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
    2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
    3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
    4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
