Duties

Works under the written and verbal direction of the CYS Instructional Program Specialist, who provides guidance on scope of assignments and assistance on the more complex, non-routine problems encountered. Work is reviewed in terms of results achieved and adherence to established standards and procedures. Instructional classes are normally performed independently with technical assistance available from supervisor when required. Classes are routinely spot-checked; the more high risk activities are closely reviewed for adherence to policies, procedures and instructions. Serves as an Instructor of Music, Dance, Martial Arts, Fine Arts, Performance Arts, etc. with CYS Instructional Programs. Provides individual and/or group lessons to participants.
Offers less structured activities for parents/children. Coordinates work schedules with CYS Instructional Program Specialist. Develops individual and group lesson plans. Tracks participant's accomplishments, long and short term goals, effort, and evaluations as appropriate for age and type of instruction. Implements changes and adjustments to instructional program and plans to meet unusual situations associated with the needs of individual children and youth. Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children/youth. Acts to stimulate and encourage participant interest and to establish an environment that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of program participants. Observes and evaluates participant's developmental level and records progress. Continually reviews instructional sessions and plans for appropriateness. Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed. Notifies supervisor on health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. Participates in conferences with parents, program staff, and school representatives. Plans and conducts special events for parents designed to promote the instructional program while encouraging parents to become involved. Uses designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with standards and procedures as outlined in applicable regulations and program management guides. Provides care, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Air Force and local policies, guidance, and standards.

  • This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.

  • This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations this includes annual influenza vaccinations and be free of all communicable diseases.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal). Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop and stand on a routine basis. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors. Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease. Demonstrated skill/evidence of competence in instructional area. Prefer candidates who possess a Professional Certificate/Credentials; or Associates Degree or higher with 15 semester hours of college credit in the area of instruction. "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use".

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
