Job Summary * Provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Therapists restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health. They examine patients medical histories and then test and measure the patients strength, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration, and motor function. They also develop plans describing a treatment strategy and its anticipated outcome with a goal of improving how an individual may function at home and/or work. Minimum Qualifications * Education/Experience * Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate in Physical Therapy * * License/Certification/Registration * Maryland State License in Physical Therapy * BLS obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment * * Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Health and MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. * Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position. * Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospitals mission, values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities. * Exhibits professionalism, courtesy and excellent customer service, while interacting with patients, guests and co-workers. * Ability to work effectively with people from allbackgrounds regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation,socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, politicalbeliefs, or other ideologies. * Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. * Give instructions and education in therapeutic procedures, postural control and safety. * Ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives and choose appropriate course of action. * Ability to function as a team member. * Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities to complete daily work requirements and adjust to peaks in workload. * Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to change in a positive and cooperative manner. * Participates in inter or intradepartmental performance improvement. * Ability to evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic/orthotic devices and recommend modifications to the orthotist. Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Thoroughlyevaluates the patients mobility and functional performance capacities,abilities and deficits within the physical therapy scope of practice. * Plans therapy programs for patients to address goals inmobility and functional capacity through therapeutic exercise, gait training, manualtherapy and use of modalities as indicated. * Directs patients in care and use of assistive devices. * D emonstrates competency in the use of modalities, exerciseactivities, orthotic/prosthetic devices, durable medical equipment, gaittraining and safe manual handling. * After one year of experience, serve as a clinical instructor for Physical Therapy students. * Frequently collaborates with physicians, nurses, other team and family members to discuss patient care and discharge planning. * Provides educational information about physical therapy, injury prevention, ergonomics and ways to promote health. * Provide information to the patient and/or family about thephysical therapy plan of care, discharge recommendations and appropriate homeprogram. * Direct and supervise supportive personnel, assessing their competence delegating specific tasks to them and establishing channels of communication. * Recordsand reports patient progress in the medical record. Provides accurate billinginformation on the same day as service is provided. * Perform all other related duties as assigned.
