The Washington Post is looking for empathetic full-stack engineers who would like to work closely with our newsroom, our product team and other engineering teams to build the next generation of newsroom data pipelines and support visual storytelling at the Post. Our ideal candidates are creative problem-solvers who can learn as well as teach. This position is remote-friendly for work in the US.

  • Contribute to technical architecture and code.
  • Contribute to the overall success of technical projects in our Agile process.
  • Evaluate solutions using product and design thinking.
  • Find ways to open-source our code so that we can show our work.
  • Evaluate and recommend ways to balance our storytelling needs with our focus on performance and reusability.

  • Experience building or maintaining software applications in a team setting.
  • Would like to build tools for making sense of large data sets on newsroom deadlines while maintaining engineering rigor.
  • A desire to contribute to the Post's journalism via technology.
  • Familiarity with at least some the languages and frameworks in our stack, including Node/React, Python/R and idiomatic AWS.
  • Comfortable reading documentation or reaching out when hitting a roadblock.
  • Desire to work at a deeper level of abstraction than a single story or beat.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

The innovation doesn't end in the Newsroom - dozens of teams power The Washington Post. We are now hiring the next innovator - how will you Impact Tomorrow?
