Chief of Staff, Channels & Operations

The Channels & Operations (C&O) Chief of Staff (CoS) will manage strategic priorities, operational routines, and special projects. They will partner closely with the C&O leadership team, the C&O HRC lead, the C&O Communications lead, and various stakeholders across the Retail Bank and Capital One in support of our business.

The CoS will provide thought leadership and best practices while serving as a central point of coordination for division level efforts including but not limited to: business strategy, organizational routines, market visits, strategic communications, change management, and operational improvements. They will partner closely with HR to implement culture initiatives, associate engagement activities, and Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB) activities. The CoS also serves as the primary point of contact for teams and groups across Retail and Capital One for various inquiries and initiatives.

C&O includes more than 4,000 associates. The organization includes our Branch, Cafe, and ATM networks, Bank Operations, and several 'home office' teams who support our 'frontline' teams with products, processes, and programs. Our C&O associates focus on providing a best in class customer experience while obsessing over well-managed execution. We strive to create a culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner closely with the C&O Leadership Team to develop, build and manage strategic priorities
  • Work closely with leaders to clearly define and communicate the overall strategy and areas of focus
  • Build strong connections with key stakeholders across Capital One and the Retail Bank to ensure alignment with overall strategic focus
  • Identify and track metrics to ensure achievement of business priorities
  • Facilitate the creation of presentations related to the C&O strategy and priorities to key stakeholders and audiences, including our CEO, Executive Committee, Retail Bank President, other LOB leaders, Regulators, and Associates
  • Develop and execute an overall market visit strategy to establish open communications and strong connections between C&O leaders and Associates
  • Plan and execute leadership routines, including leadership team meetings and off-sites
  • Act as a point of contact for various enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Manage and support external and internal speaker requests for C&O leaders
  • Support DIB efforts across C&O
  • Partner with HR and Communications to create and execute Associate engagement activities
  • Assist in building a connected and effective leadership team
  • Various special projects
  • Lead a small team of talented associates who perform on various aspects of the work outlined above

  • Proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships and operate in an influential manner with senior executives to assist in driving the business agenda
  • Excellent judgment and problem solving skills are essential
  • Role model for Capital One's Values; Operates with a high degree of integrity
  • Experience in previous roles with strategy, consulting, and/or analytics focus
  • Strong storytelling, strategic thinking, structured communications, and deck-creation abilities
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies
  • Action-oriented approach that is geared toward execution and delivering breakthrough results
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills; Ability to drive to consensus
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, self-starter that can work autonomously and independently take initiative
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and bring clarity to problem solving
  • Ability to organize work and deliver on multiple high priorities at the same time
  • Proven experience with discretion in handling highly sensitive issues
  • Naturally curious and open to continuous learning

Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of agile methodologies experience
  • At least 5 years of people management experience
  • At least 5 years of process or project management experience
  • At least 3 years of consulting experience


Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience in a Chief of Staff role or Chief of Staff team
  • Change management experience
  • 6+ years of people management experience
  • 6+ years of process or project management experience
