We are currently seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Lead to support our growing team in our Dulles, VA office. Position Description The Team Lead reports to Alpha Corporation's Project Manager and is the individual in charge of an inspection team responsible for planning, preparing, and performing field condition inspections of a bridge, signal, sign, or other highway ancillary structure. A Team Lead is responsible for the overall management/supervision of an inspection team composed of one or more inspectors and shall, . Assure that inspections within the jurisdiction of the team are performed on-time and in accordance with the NBIS and the applicable US State's latest policies and procedures. . Work within the established project budgets and schedules. . Participates in bridge and ancillary structure safety inspections as required. . Assists with the schedule coordination of bridge access equipment and maintenance of traffic (MOT) vendors, testing technicians, etc. . Ensure inspection work zones are safely setup, and all Alpha applicable safety protocols are being followed. . Participates in pre-inspection meetings on-site . Assists in the field with the structure condition inspections. . As directed by Alpha's Project Manager or Senior Engineer, is responsible for the preparation of inspection and other technical reports as required for projects. . Attends project meetings as required. . Coordinates and cooperates with other Alpha Corporation Engineers and Technicians to assure success of the assigned project. . Promotes work environment that fosters good employee morale with emphasis on mutual respect. . Performs additional duties as assigned. Job Requirements: The qualifications are the same as those detailed for a Team Lead in the NBIS. The qualified candidate must, at a minimum: 1. Be a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in a US State or Territory; or 2. Have five years bridge inspection experience and have successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course; or 3. Be certified as a Level III or IV Bridge Safety Inspector under the National Society of Professional Engineer's program for National Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) and have successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course; or 4. Have all the following: a. A bachelor's degree in engineering from a college or university accredited by or determined as substantially equivalent by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. b. Successfully passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying Fundamentals of Engineering examination. c. Two years of bridge inspection experience; and d. Successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course; or 5. Have all of the following: a. An associate degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by or determined as substantially equivalent by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. b. Four years of bridge inspection experience; and c. Successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course. Training and Certification A qualified candidate shall successfully complete the National Highway Institute (NHI) course 'Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges' (FHWA-NHI-130055). Successful completion of either course shall mean obtaining a grade of 70 or better. Other preferred training: . Engineering Concepts for Bridge Inspectors (FHWA-NHI-130054) . College level courses in statics, steel design, concrete design, and strength of materials.
