Job purpose An experienced Senior Product Manager is passionate about building products that customers love. (S)he will join a dynamic and fast-paced environment and work with cross-functional teams to build software products that deliver LaserShip's vision and strategy. The Senior Product Manager's key responsibility is to lead and collaborate with these cross-functional teams to design, develop, deploy, and continue to improve these products in a cost-effective, predictable manner. The Senior Product Manager's key role is strategic, not tactical. The other organizations support his or her strategic efforts; (s)he does not support their tactical tasks. To be effective in this role, the Senior Product Manager must command a unique blend of business and technical expertise, a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. (S)he must enjoy spending time in the marketplace to understand customers' problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader marketplace. Although executive leaders are responsible for establishing the vision and direction for LaserShip, guiding decision makers toward desired objectives, the Senior Product Manager leads from the middle, driving daily decisions that transform executive vision into action. Not only does the Senior Product Manager understand how to make things happen, (s)he promotes efficiency and effectiveness by knowing how to lead and work with other people collaboratively to achieve the desired business results. Duties and responsibilities Performs market research and analysis to define valuable and feasible products, Creates a vision for each product by socializing its features and benefits with internal business customers and external customers, Develops an actionable plan and product road map using an iterative, continuous learning and improvement approach, Communicates and collaborates effectively with the following stakeholders to define product release requirements and target schedules: Executive Management Team, Executive Sponsor(s), Business Product Owners, Business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), IT Program Management Office (PMO), IT Business Analysis Team, IT Software Engineering Team, IT Quality Assurance Team, Business and IT Product Launch and Rollout Teams. Manages product scope and priorities to assure that product features, product costs, and delivery schedules integrate effectively with the strategic business plan and the annual business operating plan, Experienced in branding products and developing an effective marketing communications plan, Defines a go-to-market strategy for the entire company, defining product positioning, key benefits, required marketing communications, and target customers, In collaboration with the Executive Sponsor(s) and Product Owners, identifies the key metrics required to verify delivery of business benefits as part of the product design and, following product deployment, uses these metrics to verify business benefits and drive continuous product improvement, Verifies directly with customers that products are solving the right problems and improving the overall customer experience, Using a collaborative approach, takes primary responsibility for business process management (BPM), and in doing so: Draws on appropriate business and technology research regarding BPM trends, standards, and futures, Consults with the Executive Team and with Business Product Owners and SMEs from LaserShip's East and Central Divisions to understand LaserShip's "as is" Business Architecture and uses this baseline to formulate the "to be" Architecture, Consults with the IT Management Team to understand LaserShip's current technology architecture, standards, and future plans and how they can contribute to business transformation, increased revenues and profitability, and competitive advantage, Capitalizes on relevant knowledge and experience within and outside of the broader Transportation industry. Grounded in proven methodology and standards but also capable of using situational management to adapt both to an individual company's culture, business needs, and level of maturity. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications include: BA or BS degree, Outstanding written and verbal communications skills using a variety of presentation tools, Outstanding professional skills including problem solving, negotiation, meeting facilitation, and project management, Proven ability to manage up, down, and across a large and diverse organization, Five years of experience working as a successful, full life cycle Product Manager in collaboration with executive teams, executive sponsors, product owners, product deployment teams, and one or more software engineering teams using an Agile Development Methodology, Experience working with software engineering teams to build cross-functional products in support of mission critical business services and systems of record spanning Operations, Sales and Marketing, and Finance and Accounting, Experience working with software engineering teams to build cross-functional products in support of advanced business intelligence services, Demonstrated ability in the design and development of UX/UI products and the visual display of quantitative information, Demonstrated competency in understanding the functional and non-functional requirements of a given software product, Demonstrated competency in understanding how to apply technology to improve business results, Experience in using market research and direct interactions with internal and external customers to understand and verify product requirements and priorities, Two years of experience leading BPM initiatives, with demonstrated ability to effect transformational change on both the cost and the revenue sides of the business, Two years of experience in M&A or industry consolidation initiatives, Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment under pressure while still remaining collaborative with diverse groups to drive alignment with corporate objectives, Demonstrated ability to lead the definition, creation, and ongoing enhancement of software products within pre-defined schedule and budget constraints, Proven ability to manage a team comprised of new and moderately experienced product managers in anticipation of LaserShip's future growth needs in this area. Working conditions This position will be based in LaserShip's IT office in Vienna, Virginia. Periodic travel to LaserShip's Central Division office in Cleveland, Ohio, is required. Normal working days are Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend work required. Working hours can extend to nine hours per day. Additional occasional over time will likely be required. Direct reports None at the time of hire but with the possibility of this changing to a small group of new and moderately experienced Product Managers pending LaserShip's future needs.
