Over 90 years of quality products and superior service.Job Description:Start Date: January 2022Specialty Granules ("SGI"A' ) is committed to enhancing the Sustainability of our operations, in particular the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy efficiency and reporting. SGI is seeking candidates for a Sustainability Co-op position to help build the foundations for a highly effective Sustainability program.Co-Opportunity is a chance for you to learn about your chosen field in a real work environment with experienced SGI professionals. We offer full-time assignments to those students who are working toward undergraduate and graduate degrees in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, sustainability engineering, or related disciplines.Each assignment lasts a school term, and you may be invited to return to Specialty Granules LLC for additional terms while you continue your education. During your assignment, you will have a mentor - someone who will act as a coach to help you better understand both SGI and your work responsibilities. You will receive competitive pay, and a temporary living allowance.As the Sustainability Co-Op you will be responsible for:Supporting the process to update SGI's Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG Footprint by working with mine operations and the purchasing department to provide the required data and optimize future updatesEnhancing Sustainability reporting at SGI by analyzing each site according to selected metrics from recognized Sustainability StandardsImproving operational efficiency at SGI by coordinating site assessments by specialist consultants and performing the project economic analysis of high priority improvement projects for proposal to leadershipRequirements:Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, sustainability engineering. All candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and at least junior standing (based on semester/credit hours)Proficient with office productivity tools: Microsoft Office Suite and Google (G-Suite)Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to work either as part of a team and independentlyFamiliarity with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, basic understanding of project techno-economic analysis, strong interest in automation of data analysisCandidates must be a US citizen or a Permanent ResidentTravel Requirements: 10% domestically (travel to local plant - Blue Ridge Summit, PA)Working Conditions: Office, travel, and outdoors/indoors within a process plant and mining environmentPhysical Requirements: Computer, ability to make oral presentations, lifting objects up to 50 lbs., standing or sitting for extended periods, extended or irregular hours, bending, climbing, kneeling, stooping, walking on uneven terrain.
