Summary:

Valuations are at the core of how decisions are made at Capital One. They help us understand the profitability and resiliency of our products, and drive key decisions around marketing, pricing, risk and strategy. This associate will join a team taking on an ambitious agenda to build a holistic set of valuation models/tools (lending, deposits, treasury management, cost allocation) and use cases to enable relationship-level insights for Small Business customers, a first in Capital One. This role is for the Small Business Banking valuations team and includes developing, implementing, maintaining valuation models and enabling their usage in business decisions across SBB like product pricing, portfolio/ customer management, and other strategic efforts.

The associate will work alongside BAs, DAs, DEs, and DSs to deliver on this key priority for SBB. The role is at the intersection of Business Strategy, Modeling/Data Science and Technology and offers a great platform for a well-rounded BA looking to grow and develop in these areas.

Associate tasks and projects in role:
  • Develop a solid understanding of SBB lending/deposits businesses and where valuations can support the business
  • Develop enhancements and additional capabilities for our suite of models/tools or build and bring to market new valuation models, playing a role in enabling SBB's relationship level valuations ambition
  • Own the end-to-end agenda related to a particular model/tool including adoption and usage as well as its role in the broader relationship value goal
  • Maintenance and monitoring of valuation models by working with model risk office, CRM, and business partners to address model changes required for environmental, portfolio, or business strategy changes
  • Work with partners in pricing, account origination, and portfolio to enable appropriate leveraging of valuation models in SBB business strategy and operations
  • Work with partners in product/ technology to drive use case intent and implement their models on production systems to create business value and be well-managed
  • Analyses/projects using valuation model outputs to explore and enable new use cases across SBB


Core skills and experiences the associate would develop in this role:
  • Solid understanding of SBB businesses and valuations modeling
  • Understanding of SBB & enterprise data environment and tech platforms/infrastructure
  • Understanding of model governance & risk management at Capital One
  • Strong analytical skills and technical/coding skills (SQL, python)
  • Communication and influence-building opportunities with partners and stakeholders
  • Exposure to product/tech and comfort in working in cross-functional spaces/wearing multiple hats
  • Prioritization skills and comfort with white-space problem-solving
  • Exposure to SBB lending/deposits strategy and processes/infrastructure


General Responsibilities :

  • Strategic leadership: Develop business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands
  • Leadership: May manage and develop 1-2 analysts. Coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One
  • Product: Develop and implement new product and pricing strategies for various lending products; lead product level modeling/analytics
  • Marketing: Lead direct-to-consumer marketing efforts for select products, and strategic intent for products distributed through the retail channel. Build targeted insights to inform the design and development of new customer experiences, as well as breakthrough technology and concepts designed to deliver on new go-to-market strategies
  • Credit Risk: Drive step-change improvements in credit performance by connecting drivers of future consumer credit trends to historical behavior, creating risk models, and testing hypotheses using rigorous monitoring and analysis


  • Execution: Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently
  • Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: IT, Sales, Operations, Finance and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability
  • Strategic & analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management
  • Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business
  • Solid people leadership experience: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. He/she should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results


  • Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment
  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 2 years of experience in analysis


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree


  • 5+ years of experience in analysis
  • 2+ years of experience in financial services
  • 1+ year of experience in consulting
  • 2+ years of experience in people management
