Job DescriptionSEARCH FOR DIRECTOR MARYLAND PSYCHIATRIC RESEARCH CENTER (MPRC) University of Maryland School of Medicine Baltimore, MDTHE SEARCH The Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC), an internationally renowned research center based at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, seeks a forward thinking, collaborative, innovative, and experienced leader/researcher to serve as its next Director. MPRC's mission is to conduct basic, clinical, and translational research on the causes and treatment of schizophrenia and related disorders. In leading MPRC, among a select few centers of similar focus and reputation in the world, the next Director will enjoy a unique opportunity to shape the future of a highly productive and significant research center. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, the Director leads and manages all operations and functions of MPRC while setting and executing its vision and strategy. The Center is comprised of four major components, including an outpatient research program, a Treatment Research Program that includes a 24-bed inpatient unit, a neuroscience program including the Maryland Brain Collection, and the University of Maryland Center for Brain Imaging Research. As a transformational leader, the next Director will preside during an important moment in MPRC's history, as it builds upon its prominence and reputation in the field of schizophrenia and related disorders research, while improving its physical infrastructure and facilities. In this role, the Director will address a set of opportunities and challenges that will impact the mission and success of the Center, including leading and managing MPRC with innovation, forward thinking, and open communication; leading MPRC's efforts during the transition to improve its facilities and infrastructure; preserving and maintaining MPRC's unique culture of collaboration between researchers and clinical staff; improving the Center's culture and environment regarding diversity, equity and inclusion through hiring practices and awareness; building on the Center's international reputation by fostering its continued growth, and increasing collaboration and partnerships between MPRC and academic departments at the School of Medicine, UMB, and other external organizations. The Director oversees a center comprised of 106 employees, including 24 faculty, 10 of whom are full professors, and 79 staff, and an operating budget of $15.9 million and projected revenues of $17.6 million in FY22, including $4 million of contracted support by the state. QualificationsThe ideal candidate for the role will be an exemplary leader and strategic thinker, and an exceptional academic physician and leader with a proven ability to manage and lead a large research center. The Director will also possess an excellent track record of academic scholarship and funded research, a Doctor of Medicine degree, plus board certification in Psychiatry and fellowship trained or demonstrate equivalent expertise. It is expected that the selected candidate will meet the criteria for appointment as Professor, with Tenure. The Director will bring a collaborative leadership style with a commitment to integrating research at MPRC with the UMB Department of Psychiatry, as well as with other scientists across the School of Medicine.
