Responsibilities

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) seeks a recognized global leader and innovator with substantial experience leading a multi-layered organization responsible for fostering innovation and creating solutions for aviation and aerospace. The Deputy Assistant Administrator for NextGen oversees and directs the National Air Space (NAS) Modernization via a team of approximately 800 employees and a $2B budget.

Specifically, the Deputy Assistant Administrator for NextGen:
  • Oversees the development of an organizational operations strategy that aligns with the Department of Transportation and FAA Flight Strategic Plan, ensuring the strategy is developed based on data-driven decision making.
  • Leads NAS strategic planning including long term planning for the FAA Research, Engineering and Development Portfolio and implements and maintains strategies that maintain and improve the safety of the NAS.
  • Champions NAS Modernization progress by establishing plans to monitor and track execution of modernization plans and the evolution of programs in collaboration with executing organizations.
  • Influences the development of the National Aviation Research Plan and the support research, engineering and development activities. Ensures activities are well managed and sufficiently address national priorities.
  • Oversees William J. Hughes Technical Center services, including, testing, research and laboratory services. Advocates for the development of policies and procedures that ensures the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Technical Center operations.
  • Represents the FAA on NextGen matters to the Congress, senior leaders within the FAA and other stakeholders.
  • Actively promotes, supports, and participates in the FAA Equal Opportunity Program and helps identify and resolve EEO issues or complaints.

As a basic requirement for entry into the FAA Executive System, you must provide evidence of progressively responsible leadership experience that is indicative of senior executive level management capability; and is directly related to the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined under the Leadership and Technical Requirements listed below.
