The American Association for Justice (AAJA' (R)) is seeking an Accounts Payable and Payroll Accountant for its Finance department. AAJ works to preserve the constitutional right to trial by jury and to make sure people have a fair chance to seek justice when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others"A cents € even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.The Accounts Payable and Payroll Accountant is responsible for coordinating the automated accounts payable systems and processes for the AAJ and its affiliated entities, and for fully and accurately processing the bi-weekly payroll cycle for AAJ and its affiliates. The individual will be responsible for maintaining the organization's automated Accounts Payable platform "Mineral Tree,"A' including facilitating invoice processing, electronic approvals, and payment processing. The position is also responsible for administering payroll, time & attendance, and general ledger interfaces of the organization's Payroll platform, Paycom.The position also performs other payroll related duties including payroll and benefits reporting, payroll and a/p account reconciliations, expense reporting, and coordinates regularly with Human Resources to support AAJ's 401(k) plan.Specific duties related to Accounts Payable process management include: invoice processing, routing and approval for payment, and payment processing; supporting the electronic contract files; prepare for filing and manage payments of all required state sales & use tax returns; reconcile the accounts payable aging to the general ledger monthly; support the annual review of vendors' data for 1099 issuance; maintain filing of all vendor payments, W-9 and department AP files; assist with month-end closing as requested.Specific duties related to Payroll include: organize and execute full-cycle of bi-weekly payroll duties and ensure compliance with all laws (state and federal taxes, including quarter and year-end reconciliations); accurately review and process time and attendance, personnel actions (new hires, terminations, leave of absence, benefit deductions, promotions, merit and pay increments and transfers) for all AAJ and related party staff; process all deductions, set up new hires in payroll and timesheet modules and serve as primary contact and point person for AAJ with Paycom and all state taxing authorities; responsible for uploading monthly journal entries for payroll and benefit expenses; annual W2s and payroll reports. Individual should have an understanding of payroll objectives processes and become software SME. Work closely with Human Resources.The position also oversees and supports HR related to 401K administration and execution and the reconciliation of employer and employee contributions monthly.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred, with a minimum five years payroll and accounts payable experience.CPP designation preferred.Proficiency in Paycom, Mineral Tree, and Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred.Experience with Microsoft Dynamics-Great Plains preferred.A comprehensive knowledge of payroll and accounts payable processing, management, compliance, and reporting.Have a comprehensive understanding of new developments in payroll laws and taxation.Knowledge of 401k compliance requirements, understanding of Summary Plan Description (SPD), and knowledge of IRS contribution limits.Detail-oriented as well as strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Excellent oral/written communication and customer service skills.Ability to work independently and with as a team.Must successfully pass a criminal background check.Due to COVID-19 this position will temporarily work remotely.The American Association for Justice (AAJ) requires all employees to show proof of vaccination before October 17, 2021.
