SUMMARY:Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) is a nationally recognized, community-based, multicultural and multilingual youth development center, with the mission of empowering a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood through multicultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. Each year, LAYC works with approximately 5,000 children, teens, and families through a network of youth centers, housing programs, school-based sites, and public charter schools that offer a comprehensive set of high quality, culturally sensitive programs.LAYC/MMYC Promotores are a combination of youth development workers, mentors, and intensive case managers who work intentionally and deliberately to build transforming relationships with disconnected youth. The Promotor is responsible for providing services and referrals, support and follow-up over an extended period of time to a high risk youth population between the ages of 12-24. The Promotor will provide mentoring, skill development, guidance, and advocacy so that each youth achieves the goals of increased academic success, transition to work, and improvement in healthy behaviors. Positions will be placed within Prince George's County Public Schools.LAYC/MMYC is a culturally competent organization that prioritizes recruiting and supporting staff who have shared life experiences with our youth.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Understands, practices, and promotes the vision, mission, and values of LAYC, Positive Youth Development, and the Promotor Pathway.Provides youth of varying ages and needs with ongoing and long-term intensive case management services, including referrals and assistance linking youth to other service providers.Incorporates information from the youth's Risk Screening, referrals, other service providers, and primarily the youth themselves to assist in goal setting and planning.Develops each youth's Case Plan within 30 days of admission and updates every six months to articulate goals, objectives, and identify the key resources needed.Conducts a thorough Needs Assessment with the youth every six months to identify continuing and new areas of need.Monitors youth's progress and maintains frequent communication with youth through phone calls, home visits, school visits, text messages, and any other means of communication to ensure that individual goals are being addressed and met.Works with and develops strong, healthy relationships with youth, family members, and others involved in the youth's life.Provides instruction and skills development (life skills, career development, etc.) on an individual basis for youth as needed.Gathers appropriate documents for case files and requests necessary information from outside agencies to maintain file up to date.Works with community agencies, school leaders and staff, and LAYC/MMYC program staff to develop and foster an effective coordination of services for youth.Responsible for recruitment and outreach activities within the school to actively build referral sources and identify and engage with students who may benefit from participation in the Promotor Pathway.Participates in school and community events to represent the Promotor Pathway and engage with youth and families.Provides crisis intervention as necessary and remains available for emergencies.Tracks outcomes and enters case notes regularly in LAYC's database system, Efforts-to Outcome (ETO) to assist in the evaluation of the Promotor Pathway. A cents € cents Collaborates with external evaluators and assists in data collection as needed.Improves professional skills by attending workshops, seminars, and training sessions as allowed by time and funding constraints.Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or Director of the Promotor Pathway.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's Degree preferred; significant experience working with underserved youth will be consideredMinimum four years of experience working with high need youth populationsExperience in managing crisis situationsExperience working in a school setting preferredKnowledge of community and local resources in DC and MarylandAbility and desire to maintain a flexible schedule (including school and community events, late nights, and weekends)Knowledge of criminal background checks and ability to complete clearancesKnowledge of case management, monitoring and reportingFlexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environmentAbility to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populationAbility to translate Positive Youth Development techniques into practiceStrong organizational skills and ability to work with minimum supervisionBilingual or fluent/proficient: English and Spanish requiredAbility to independently build relationships with school personnel and community partnersExcellent oral and written skillsProficient computer skills, experience with ETO or other data collection system a plusPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs.
