The Board of Child Care is seeking a Teacher Assistant for the Strawbridge School. BOARD OF CHILD CARE'S STRAWBRIDGE SCHOOL POSITION: Teacher Assistant POSITION RESPONSIBLE TO: Teacher/Assistant Principal JOB LOCATION Board of Child Care - Strawbridge School - 3300 Gaither Road, Baltimore, MD 21244 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish and maintain safe classroom environment by implementing behavior management techniques together with the Teacher. Assist with the planning of the curriculum and, in consultation with the Teacher, implement specific parts of the curriculum. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by teacher. Assist the Teacher in writing and maintaining required records. Perform other duties, as requested. Participate in case management process for assigned students. Assure that administrative and/or departmental directives are enforced. Substitute for absent teachers as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrate familiarity with cultural patterns existing within a community which may affect the behavior of children and adolescents Work effectively as a member of a team Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of special education and psychology Establish relationships with children and adolescents on a group and individual basis, gaining their trust and confidence Accept supervision from the Teacher Physically intervene and restrain students, male and female, as necessary. Able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills Able to operate agency vehicles, ie, valid Maryland Driver's License. Able to work cooperatively with others.
