Summary The Controller ensures that company financial statements are in line with management's requirements and industry standards. The Controller prepares financial statements that meet standard accounting principles as well as state and federal regulations. The Controller will manage internal controls, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial audits. The Controller has the task of making sure there are no errors on a company's balance sheet or on the statements of profit and loss, cash flows, or retained earnings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Preparing and consolidating financial statements and reports. Assisting with the development and evaluation of budgets and preparing budget reports. Supporting the formulation and implementation of control systems within the organization. Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, identifying discrepancies, and reconciling accounts. Supporting the accounting department with all aspects of the general ledger. Ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory standards. Preparing and managing accounts using various software programs. Preparing and assisting with audits. Following changes in regulations and compiling reports regarding compliance issues, standards, and accounting practices. Prepares support documents and coordinates preparation of multiple tax returns with external accountants. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Experience 5-8 years' accounting experience; at least 4 years' commercial real estate experience. Management experience preferred. Previous experience as an accountant, assistant controller, or in a similar role. Professional certification such as CPA, CFM, or CMA preferred. Excellent understanding of GAAP and relevant financial accounting regulations. High proficiency utilizing Yardi Voyager or other leading commercial real estate accounting system required. Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex business documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive issues Requires expert level analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutions Advanced skills in Microsoft suite applications and real estate or other financial accounting software. Thorough knowledge of computer applications related to real estate accounting or financial management systems. Experience evaluating, implementing, and testing software systems that support the firm's accounting function.
