Summary

This position is located in the Department of Congressional and Public Affairs, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Responsibilities

As a Pathways Intern (External Affairs), you will receive on-the-job training designed to learn about and gain experience working with MCC staff on external affairs program activities. You will have an opportunity to assist staff with:
  • developing social media accounts and email marketing content, including MCC's monthly email newsletter.
  • identifying platforms where the Corporation will benefit from the most reach for its messages and the most engagement with its audiences.
  • collaborating on email marketing to maximize open and click-through rates.
  • archiving accounts when required.
  • monitoring social media accounts across all platforms.
  • developing and preparing content for social posts, marketing campaigns, etc.
  • creating social media toolkits.
  • performing related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this Pathways Student Intern position, you must meet the following:

You must have completed 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's or equivalent degree in digital & social media, public affairs/relations, media, communications, marketing, advertising or a closely related curriculum

and

You must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a qualifying degree or certificate program in any field.

OR

You must have completed 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's or equivalent degree in any field

and

You must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a qualifying degree or certificate program in digital & social media, public affairs/relations, media, communications, marketing, advertising or a closely related curriculum.

and

All applicants must be in good academic standing and must have at least a 2.5 GPA.

NOTE: If you are graduating at the end of the current semester, and do not plan on pursuing additional education, you are not eligible for this position.

Additional credit may be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work experience.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit may be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. To receive credit you must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours worked per week.

  • Due to COVID-19, the agency is operating in a state of maximum telework and most employees are teleworking full-time. Consequently, you will start your work in a temporary telework status and in a virtual environment. Your temporary telework arrangement will remain in effect until the agency informs you that MCC is open and operational for all staff. MCC will provide as much advance notice as possible before you may be required to report to MCC's office space. MCC has and will continue to offer flexible work arrangements.
  • If you will have completed or will be completing all degree requirements on or before the current semester and do not plan on pursuing additional education, you will be found ineligible for this position.

  • This is an excepted service appointment, not-to-exceed one (1) year, under the MCC Pathways Internship Program. After successful completion of the program requirements, at the discretion of MCC, the individual may be converted to a term or permanent appointment. An intern converted to a term appointment may be subsequently converted non-competitively into a permanent competitive service position before the term expires.
  • Students may work full-time or part-time (as their class schedule allows) while school is in session, and full-time (depending upon the needs of the agency) when students are on a vacation period or whenever the school is officially closed.
  • Selectee must sign a Pathways Agreement defining the requirements of the program.
  • There is no guarantee of conversion to a term or permanent appointment. Conversion is at the sole discretion of MCC management.
  • If selected, male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-employment Certification Statement to verify Selective Service Registration.
  • Pay: Your pay will be set within the range specified in this vacancy announcement and will be based on your qualifications, education, experience, training, and availability of funds.
