WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Supervisory Public Health Advisor, you will be responsible for providing leadership and staff oversight to the Division of State and Community Assistance (DSCA) relevant to the Division, and specifically:
  • Provide authoritative advice and assistance to the Center Director on important behavioral health care policies and innovative initiatives.
  • Recommend, implement and monitor policies, programs and initiatives.
  • Serve as a representative to state block grantees and partners on SAMHSA policy, planning, regulatory and legislative proposals affecting substance abuse treatment and other healthcare initiatives.
  • Serve as major spokesperson and representative for the Division and the key liaison to the Center Director.
  • Serve as representative for the Center Director to public, private agencies, the general public, grant recipients and partners in matters pertaining to mental and substance use disorder issues and programs related thereto.

Experience that provided:
  • Knowledge of organizational, operational, and programmatic concepts and practices applied by public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in public health or other health-related activities.
  • Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver public health or health-related programs in State and local settings.
  • Knowledge of a specialized public health program.
  • Knowledge of, and skill in, the application of administrative or analytical methods and techniques necessary for working within the framework of a public health or related organization and carrying out specific program functions.
  • Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing on a regular and recurring basis:

Experience with substance use disorder treatment OR co-occurring substance use disorder treatment and mental health/disorders OR recovery support services; managing public health program(s) including planning, developing, and implementing program requirements.; supervising staff, including addressing employee performance, leave, and training needs; the management of rules, regulations and policies governing the administration of a large agencies grant program; and conveying complex information to broad audiences, which may include providers, stakeholders, government officials, community partners and/or state and local representatives.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
