Summary

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Photo Engraving Branch, DCF. As a Photoengraver Leader, you will be assisting the Assistant Supervisor and/or Supervisor/Division Manager in the administration of the routine work of the photoengravers, as assigned. Assures that the equipment in the Photoengraving Section is working properly and proper maintenance is followed.

Responsibilities

As a/an Photoengraver Leader, you will:

-Operate various high precision measuring devices, colorimeters and spectrophotometers.
-Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting on all equipment. Maintain all safety equipment in the area and enforces all safety regulations. Report and/or correct all safety and housekeeping deficiencies.
-Assist the Assistant Supervisor and/or Supervisor in planning and establishing the direction of the daily production of films and digital files used in the production of nyloplates, wet offset plates, digital photography and digital prints in accordance with print orders and requisitions. Coordinate and monitor the work flow in the digital pre-press area.
-Distribute work, and instructions, assigned by the Assistant Supervisor and/or Supervisor to Photoengravers, effect changes and adjusts work schedules, as required or requested by the Assistant Supervisor and/or Supervisor, in order to fill special or priority delivery requirements.
-Maintain an electronic job tracking system, recording, tracking and providing up-to-date status information in regards to production orders.

Job requires hand and eye coordination, prolonged walking and standing, intermittent light to moderate lifting and ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; requires good eyesight and ability to perform appropriate functions in various lighting conditions. Work may require energetic arm movement when plates are processed by hand. In addition, the work requires frequent lifting and carrying of platemaking materials weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds).

    OTHER INFORMATION:

    • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
