Duties

Summary

You will serve as a Student Trainee (Information Technology) at the GG-04 grade level performing a variety of assignments involving the basic application of information technology (IT) principles, procedures, processes, methods and policies in the administration, development, delivery and support of information technology (IT) systems and services.

This position will be recruiting students for the summer of 2023, though may tentatively start earlier if all security requirements are cleared.

  • You will assist with providing basic and routine information technology support work in one or more information technology specialty area(s): policy and planning, security, systems analysis, applications software, operating systems.
  • You will assist with providing basic and routine information technology support work in one or more information technology specialty area(s): network services, data management, internet, systems administration, and customer support .
  • You will assist with monitoring and maintaining information technology systems, providing services and support, and preparing reports.

  • You must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). Failure to do so may result in the withdrawal of an offer or removal. Indicate the level and date of your clearance in your resume.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the DCIPS (excepted service) which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • Must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an accredited institution, on at least a half-time basis.


Qualifications

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for the GG-04, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 1 academic year (30 credits) of post-high school study or have an Associate's degree.

All educational requirements for this position must be met by June 30, 2023.

Program Completion and Conversion:

Interns may be converted at the discretion of the agency to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-5 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Complete at least 320 hours of work experience acquired through Internship Program
  • Complete their degree requirements
  • Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
  • Perform their job successfully


Education

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

1) A high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such body or state.

AND

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

(i) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;
(ii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school)
(iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school)
(iv) A home-school curriculum

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements, if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
