Opportunities for Outpatient Project Team LeadsAs a result of recent new contracts awarded under the new 5-year VHA National Medical Coding BPA, Cooper Thomas, LLC, a leading provider of medical coding services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), has multiple, immediate openings for a remote full-time Team Leads. Previous experience with VA is required, whether as a VA employee or with another VA contractor.Applicants should have a minimum of 1-year supervisory experience and have demonstrated the ability to manage small outpatient coding project teams. Preference will be given to those candidates who meet the qualifications below and have an active Background Investigation, PIV Card, eToken, and DMA or Multi-farm CAG Account. This position reports directly to our Coding, Auditing, & Training Manager.Overall Position Description:Work remotely from your home officeCode and audit in addition to managing workflow, and coder productivity and quality, depending upon the size of the project and your prior experienceManage workflow in a high-volume, productivity driven environmentTrain and manage codersInterpret & identify coder audits & training opportunities to maintain high qualityInterface with client personnel to ensure consistent high levels of client satisfactionMore detailed qualifications include:Essential Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:Actively manage a team of coders for long-term contracts at a VA medical centerCoordinate with client to forecast productivity requirements for upcoming weekCommunicate with your coders to ensure committed capacity is achieved on a weekly basisMonitor production and turnaround timeConduct quality assurance audits and coordinate the implementation of supplemental training, to ensure all coders achieve 95% accuracyWork with resource manager to ensure sufficient staffing levels and expertiseBe responsible for understanding and communicating CMS coding standards, VHA National Coding Guidelines, and site-specific coding processes, practices, and protocols to assigned coding staffBe responsible for overall contract performance and client satisfactionPosition Qualifications & Technical Requirements:Ability to manage coders and auditors on a long-term contractSupervising medical coders and auditors in a high-volume production environmentKnowledge of E/M, CPT, DX, ICD-10, ModifiersCoding experience with Labs, Radiology, Colonoscopy, Heart Catherization, Chemotherapy, Optometry, Ophthalmology, and Mental HealthCurrent experience coding VA Outpatient encountersExperience conducting coding audits for VA Outpatient encountersConduct virtual one-on-one and group training sessions to improve coder qualityMust be able to collaboratively work with and communicate professionally with internal and external project stakeholdersWorking familiarity with E/M leveling for OP and ED visits using 95', 97' and 2021 guidelinesWorking familiarity with E/M calculator and ability to use this tool proficientlyWorking familiarity with 3M Encoder for ICD10 and CPT codingKnowledge in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology and disease processes, pharmacology, health record format and content, reimbursement methodologies and conventions, rules and guidelines for current classification systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS).Education and Qualifications:A two-year degree in Health Information or a related field is preferred but not required. Strong consideration also given to candidates who demonstrate a successful experience substitute.
