Position Information
The Teen Health Services Coordinator/Assistant Family Planning Coordinator position is located in the Community Health Services Bureau in the Public Health Division of the Department of Human Services. This position works with a multidisciplinary team providing services in clinics and case management. Clinical services include: Family Planning, Maternity, Immunizations, Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV Testing and AIDS Drug Assistant Program. The clinics serve an ethnically and culturally diverse population, and many clients have limited English proficiency.

Specific duties include:
  • Guides and directs the work of others in the Family Planning and Teen Services Clinics
  • Provides direct care to Family Planning and Teen Services Clinic clients
  • Provides case management of Family Planning clients who need to be followed for abnormal lab findings/results
  • Coordinates Teen services as a component of the Family Planning Program
  • Serves as technical expert to the Community Health Services staff and to the community in the area of Family Planning
  • Serves as the Nurse Liaison with School Health personnel to plan, provide and evaluate Family Planning and sexual health services to adolescents
  • Compiles, maintains and analyzes program data/statistics to meet Federal, State and Local reporting mandates
  • Participates in Emergency Preparedness and Response activities

Selection Criteria
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing
  • One year of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be licensed or eligible for license by endorsement to practice professional nursing as a Registered Nurse in Virginia.
Substitution: Education may be substituted by additional directly related experience on a year for year basis.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Masters Degree in Nursing, Public Health or related field;
  • Experience guiding and directing the work of others
  • Work experience in a Public Health setting;
  • Work experience in Family Planning;
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

Special Requirements
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, flexible schedule within core hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Some evening hours are required to cover evening clinics.

Licenses/Certifications: Must be licensed or eligible for license by endorsement to practice professional nursing as a Registered Nurse in Virginia. The Board of Nursing may issue a license by endorsement to an applicant who has been licensed as a professional nurse by another state, the District of Columbia, or a United States possession or territory.
