Summary

This position is part of the Office of the Chief Information Officer, Department of Energy. As an IT Specialist, you will analyze/perform work necessary to plan, design, develop, acquire, document, test, implement, integrate, maintain, or modify systems for solving problems or accomplishing local, metropolitan, and wide area networking architecture and operations related work processes by using computers.

Responsibilities

As an IT Specialist, you will:
  • Provide in-depth and independent technical guidance, services, technologies, advice, and recommendations to DOE senior leaders and acts as a team lead of technical federal and contractor IT professionals maintaining DOE systems, networks and connectivity.
  • Perform duties across specialized IT functions, which may include cybersecurity, network architecture, project management, data management, systems administration, and policy planning.
  • Ensure continuity in operations and the rigorous application of information management/information security/cybersecurity policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of planning and management services.
  • Carry out a variety of tasks involved in systems analysis, systems administration, networks, policy and planning, and internet.
  • Serve as a leader or member on various standing information management boards, committees and working groups, as well as ad-hoc groups convened by DOE offices.
  • Prepare and provide briefings to leadership on assigned programs and projects; reviews, prepares and coordinate correspondence, reports, memoranda, directives, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to assigned technical areas.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS :
Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
  • Attention to Detail- Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service- Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication- Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving- Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the competency requirements above, a qualified candidate's online application must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
  • Recommending upgrades to hardware and software to improve network services; Analyzing network traffic patterns for performance and malicious activity.
  • Configuring network and network security devices such as routers, switches, proxies, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Providing policy guidance and interpretation to staff, contractors, and other stakeholders to produce recommendations and problem solving of IT systems.
  • Designing, configuring, testing, and supporting network services, including LANS, WANs, and telecommunications systems.

Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement
