Responsibilities

Major duties include assisting with the implementation and management of FHFA's cloud security strategy. Incumbent is responsible for the maintaining the security and compliance of day-to-day work for IT-related projects within his/her area of expertise. Provides advice, guidance, and training to other IT specialists and may lead IT project teams within area of responsibility. Oversees project responsibilities within assigned area to ensure the proper resources and plans are put into place and are on target.

The cloud security engineer will be responsible to support FHFA's implementation and use of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) capabilities in AWS, Microsoft Azure and Office 365 environments. These activities include the following:
  • Serve as an OTIM expert on cloud security architecture;
  • Develop and maintain documentation of FHFA's cloud architecture;
  • Serve as an OTIM expert in cloud security controls, principles and best practices;
  • Develop security policies and practices;
  • Provide security engineering support to the development of internet facing systems designed via AWS or Azure;
  • Develop and maintain monitoring capabilities to detect malicious or unauthorized activity;
  • Advise Operations and Development teams on securely migrating on-prem technologies and services to cloud infrastructure;
  • Remain aware of emerging cloud services and technologies offered by AWS or Microsoft;
  • Develop recommendations and implementation guidelines related to cloud-based security enhancements including, but not limited to Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) technology, Web Application Firewall (WAF) technology, etc.;
  • Research and recommend third party vendor solutions to enhance the native security capabilities of AWS or Microsoft;
  • Advise Enterprise Architecture on cloud capabilities; and,
  • Serve as contracting officer representative (COR) for multiple technical projects.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience for the EL/GS-13 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to EL/GS-12 which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include the following:
  • Served as an expert with implementing cloud security architectures.
  • Served as an expert in cloud security controls, principles and best practices;
  • Developed cloud security policies and procedures or other policy-based documents;
  • Implemented cloud security best practices, particularly as they relate to Federal policies and standards.
  • Managed or supported cloud-based security technologies.


Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS-SCI clearance
