Summary

This position is located in the Financial Services Directorate (FSD), Travel Office. The incumbent is responsible for supporting travel operations, and interpretation of the Federal Travel Regulations as required for domestic and international travel, thereby ensuring better internal controls, and interrelating efforts of management, travel administrative staff and travelers.

The incumbent for this position will work a full-time, flexitime work schedule.

Provides policy guidance and support to Travel Office customers, and performs administrative processes such as data entry, reviewing travel transactions, documenting guidance, systems analysis, and overall financial management as it relates to travel activity.

Plans and conducts reviews of transactions in conjunction with other personnel. Performs prescribed travel audit functions, which are based on Federal Travel Regulations (FTR), and uses standard evaluation techniques. Conducts audits of travel documents and uses internal systems to conduct research. Adapts methods and techniques to solve a variety of travel problems that occur. Evaluates financial and/or travel systems, policies, procedures, functions, and transactions to ascertain the integrity, effectiveness and productivity of the assigned operation and systems. Reviews specific financial and/or travel operations, documents and activities to determine compliance with governing regulations, operating procedures and controls. Gathers and evaluates travel data to determine whether an entity acquires, protects, and uses its resources economically and efficiently; the extent the program has achieved the desired results or benefits; the effectiveness of the organizations, programs and activities; and whether an entity is complying with law and regulations applicable to the program.

Performs a variety of analytical duties related to the day-to-day operation of the travel program. Prepares portions of financial and travel reports that are factual in nature based on an objective and systematic examination of the performance of an organization, program, activity, or function. Cites applicable regulations, identifies source of situations, and recommends straightforward corrective actions as needed.

Provides routine advice and assistance on well-precedent travel matters, issues, or data pertaining to a financial and/or travel program. Identifies inconsistencies in processing, problems needing resolution, customer needs and recommend corrective actions.

Reconciles problem transactions, making adjustments using well-established accounting practices. Participates in various reconciliation activities to ensure that transactions are posted correctly and any issues are resolved. Monitors, tracks, and reports on travel obligations and expenditures. Assures that travel transactional data is entered into the agency's financial and /or travel management system correctly. Recommends adjustments to policies or procedures to ensure more efficient operations. Conducts annual year-end-closing activities and reconciliations.

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Knowledge of the Federal Travel Regulations and travel document processing.**

Demonstrated ability to perform travel management activities using computer systems and software applications.**

Ability to provide customer service.

Ability to gather, organize, analyze, and reconcile travel related financial data.

Knowledge of travel management policies and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
