Responsibilities

The principal function is that of a psychologist with regional oversight of Bureau of Prisons'(BOP) specialized Psychology Treatment Programs (PTP). The PTP Coordinator exercises full professional responsibility for their findings, interpretations, decisions, recommendations and reports. The PTP Coordinator will have professional autonomy in directing and overseeing the clinical activities in relation to PTP provided to BOP inmates, including, testing, test interpretation, clinical diagnosis, technical assist visits, clinical peer reviews, recruitment and staffing of programs, and serving as the advocate for PTP with all staff, including executive staff. The PTP Coordinator is responsible for the provision of highly-skilled mental health and drug abuse treatment protocols. He or she is the expert on offender treatment and therefore serves as the program resource person to other psychologists, staff members, and operating officials.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.

AND

In addition to meeting the above Basic Requirements, applicant must have:

Education:

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience:

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Some examples of the qualifying experience are:
    • Experience in analyzing information and providing recommendations in regards to the establishment or modification of local treatment program objectives.
    • Experience with Cognitive Behavioral Treatment and the utilization of skill building, goal setting behavior management principles.
    • Experience in reviewing and coordinating the development of policies, programs, and treatment protocols for Psychology programs within a clinical or correctional program setting.
    • Experience in providing professional expertise as it relates to the theories, principles, practices and techniques of psychology and addiction treatment.

Selective Factor: Applicants applying for this position, MUST also possess the following Selective Factor.

Selective Factor:
  • Must have at least 12 consecutive months of experience as a Psychology Treatment Programs Supervisor within a Residential Program that has been operating as a modified therapeutic community for 12 months AND Applicants must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a psychologist in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

ALL applicants must clearly address this experience in their resume to be found qualified and MUST also provide a copy of current and valid license documenting the date of expiration. This documentation MUST be received in the announcing office by the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities.

This position IS NOT included in the bargaining unit.

The representative rate for this position is $134,782 per annum ($64.58per hour).

Special Conditions of Employment Section:

The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.
