Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Director for Behavioral Health (BH), Dept of Pediatric Psychology at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. The incumbent will function as Pediatric Psychologist.

Responsibilities

  • Function as an active member of various interdisciplinary medical teams consisting of providers within various disciplines.
  • Utilize principles of Health Psychology to develop implement, coordinate and evaluate treatment plans for referred members that may include crisis intervention, brief psychotherapy psychoeducation groups and brief case management.
  • Prepare concise intake evaluations and treatment plans, and maintains ongoing confidential progress records in accord with state and NCQA regulations.
  • Provide education and support to members and their families to encourage compliance with medical and behavioral regimes.
  • Co-manage medical conditions through the use of non-pharmacologic and behavioral interventions in order to leverage physician time and develop appropriate patterns of utilization.
  • Collaborate with physicians in screening and evaluating patients for psychotropic medications, within the scope of practice.
  • Provide consultation and training to other members of the medical team in the areas of mental health, behavioral medicine and health psychology.
  • Provide consultation on program development, and conducts program evaluation and outcome assessment, as needed.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position has been designated ?Mission Essential?. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
  • Postdoctoral experience in clinical child or pediatric psychology is preferred.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education, license, and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist (Health):

Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

License: The Clinical Psychologist position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your license with your application package.)

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology., a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology or the equivalent in specialized training and supervised practice.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assessing pediatric patient's cognitive, emotional, and psychological status to provide appropriate interventions and treatments; collaborating with treatment team members to formulate clinical intervention; referring pediatric patients to other disciplines for consult and evaluation as indicated; and providing support and education to the patient's family on diagnosis and or/treatment options. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
