Therapeutic Instructional Associate / Direct Support Professional (After School and Weekends) Immediately hiring (Opportunity for 15-25 hours a week) for candidates who are interested in making a difference in the life of a child with autism! ** Paid Training and a great resume building opportunity at a local non-profit agency and/or a way to gain valuable experience if interested in the human services field such as mental health, special education, social work, psychology, speech and language pathology, public health, and more! CSS is seeking enthusiastic staff interested in part-time positions to join their children's program team. An ideal part-time position for those in school or looking for supplemental resume building experience or additional income. Perfect for those pursuing education or building resume experiences in human services or related fields, such as social work, special education, psychology, speech and language pathology, mental health counseling, or are interested in learning more about working with children with Autism and other developmental disabilities/special needs. Children's program DSP's work with children with special needs that require support to engage in enjoyable, social experiences after school and on Saturdays with their friends. Children in the program participate in opportunities like hiking, art, music, games, and learning basic sports skills in addition to engaging in social experiences with others and/or in the community. CSS will provide specific training for each support staff on how to offer instructional assistance and clinical guidance to engage a person with autism in the therapeutic after school program and/or Saturday program through strategic behavioral interventions. CSS provides highly structured and individualized services to thirty-five children at all levels of the autism spectrum between the ages of 11-21. The program focuses on gaining social skills through interactive peer recreation experiences, increasing expressive communication skills with language deficits, providing behavioral support for development of appropriate behavior, and providing opportunities for age appropriate inclusion in a variety of community settings. Direct support professionals work with a team of professionals to gain clinical skills in the field to apply for goal development and to teach individuals more independence and safe ways to achieve their goals. Training and all protective equipment needed during the pandemic is provided. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE Support participants to access community resources for socialization and recreation, build social relationships to develop and maintain friendships. Implement teaching strategies and behavioral interventions to assist each individual to make progress towards person-centered goals. Maintain written documentation of progress for each participant on daily schedule of activities, goal achievement, and description of services provided during session Establish teamwork with colleagues and therapeutic rapport with a variety of program individuals Encourage participants to practice social interaction skills and get more meaningful experience from their after school and weekend hobbies, interests, and physical fitness activities Driving preferred Our Children's Program has the following openings: Monday through Friday afternoons, some flexibility for partial weekday availability Saturday schedules flexible - can be added to afternoon shifts for additional hours or Saturday-only positions can be explored. COVID-19 considerations : To keep all employees and the individuals supported safe, PPE and training on the use of PPE is provided following CDC guidelines. Additional cleaning completed throughout the day to protect all against COVID-19. COVID-19 Vaccination Required. REQUIRED TRAINING/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS Completion and demonstration of techniques taught in the MANDT, CPR & First Aid training's, other training's as required by CSS which are provided in orientation. Successfully complete annual re-certification of the MANDT. Recommended to have a valid driver's license and a driving record free of any moving violations for the past two (2) years. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Employee must be able to effectively use non-adverse physical intervention strategies with individuals with autism of varying heights, weights and levels of physical strength according to the guidelines presented in Behavioral Principles and Strategies training. CSS is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization which provides services and support to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities residing within Montgomery County, Maryland. CSS was founded in 1994 and began its mission by working collaboratively with individuals, families, and other lead agencies to design and implement new models of service. CSS provides residential services in 50 homes in upper Montgomery County, where two individuals reside in each home with one or two support staff providing care and supervision . Additionally, day support services including vocational training and education are provided in our main center, family homes, and in the local Montgomery County community.
