ERG is seeking a Senior Engineer with Energetics Processing experience to support energetics and chemical manufacturing processes including evaluating safe process, equipment, and facility design, formulating risk mitigation strategies, providing technical expertise in new process startup activities, evaluating standard operating procedures (SOPs), performing malfunction and incident investigation, and interacting with technical customers to provide process engineering and safety expertise. Project management, meeting facilitation, incident investigation, and hazard analysis facilitation experience is required. This is a full-time position that supports a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland, and will involve working closely with a team of junior and mid-level engineers. Opportunities may include the following types of work:Providing technical evaluations on a variety of process engineering, process safety, and hazard analysis projects associated with energetics research, development, and manufacturing operations.Planning and executing preliminary hazard analyses (PHAs), process hazard analyses (PrHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), layer of protection analyses (LOPAs), failure mode and effect analyses (FMEAs), system hazard analyses (SHAs), Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs), and Operating and Support Hazards Analyses (O&SHAs) and other hazard analysis and risk assessment techniques.Applying root cause analysis (RCA) and fault tree analysis (FTA) techniques in execution of malfunction and failure analyses and incident investigations.Development of safety, environmental, engineering, and quality documentation for process startup and re-start efforts.Preparing and reviewing SOPs for energetics processing operations.Performing process design tasks, such as reviewing new or as built drawings, equipment, and/or process specifications; and reviewing engineering calculations that support equipment configuration and process condition determinations.Providing other on-site support as needed to include participating in various technical meetings, drafting meeting minutes, performing reviews of technical information, calculations, and previously completed analyses and performing plant inspections/audits.Providing mentorship and technical guidance to mid- and junior-level engineers supporting task execution.Candidate shall have a minimum of 20 years' experience in energetics manufacturing, process engineering, and process safety. A competitive candidate must demonstrate experience or expertise in the following areas of energetics processing:Vertical and horizontal mixing of energetic compounds.Pour and pressure casting of energetic compounds.Energetics reaction chemistry, including batch and continuous reactor configurations.Propellant and explosive formulations bench-scale research, pilot-scale manufacturing and production-scale developmentPressing and extrusion of propellants and explosives using mechanical, screw and ram presses.Machining of propellants and explosives using conventional lathes/mills/saws and CNC machining centers.ERG () is a well-respected consulting firm providing a wide range of support to federal, state, and commercial clients. ERG has provided engineering, management, and planning services to this federal client for nearly 20 years.The positions will be full time located at either ERG's Chantilly, VA or Arlington, VA offices with frequent travel to a federal site in Indian Head, MD. Will include interaction and support from ERG personnel at the federal site, as well as from ERG's Chantilly and Arlington offices. Indian Head, MD is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA. The salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $160,000, depending on years and type of experience. ERG is willing to provide assistance with relocation expenses.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.At least 20 years of relevant experience.Strong technical background in process engineering, process safety, and hazard analysis.
