The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) seeks a motivated Standards, Technology, and Market Development professional to helm our associations Technical Programs.ISEA's Director of Technical Programs and Development will have a proven track record in Standards Development, Technical Programs, and will be capable of leveraging those skills to grow new standards and programs for underserved market segments. The successful candidate will demonstrate two core competencies: stewardship of standards and technical programs, and non-profit market development.ISEA is the leading association for personal protective equipment and technologies that enable people to work in hazardous environments, and an ANSI accredited standards developing organization. The association works closely with manufacturers, test labs, subject matter experts, end-users and government agencies in the standards development process. ISEA membersleaders in safety equipment manufacturing, testing and applicationare united in the goal of protecting workers worldwide.www.safetyequipment.orgSUMMARY OF POSITIONThe Director of Technical Programs and Development is responsible for the stewardship and growth of the Safety Equipment Industry's ninety year old established standards program. The Director manages this function by formulating - in consultation with the ISEA president - the ISEA technical strategy and budget for all existing product groups with active standards, and for prospecting new members through new standards initiatives for their safety equipment market sectors. In addition the Director manages ISEA's position in the broader standards development environment, through relationships with ASTM, ANSI, ISO, and other standards development organizations active in the safety space. The Director will be an active partner in the recruitment of a newly created Manager of Standards- a position that will report to the Director.NATURE AND SCOPE:ISEAs core mission is to provide the equipment that keeps workers safe. The Director of Technical Programs and Development helms the core standards function that has for decades been central to the industry's strategy to achieve better worker safety. The Director is responsible for formulating and executing a broad based standards strategy that successfully leverages the legacy of the industry, grows that legacy into new market segments, and also positions ISEA in the changing global landscape of standards development.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES - STANDARDS OPERATIONS:Develop, in consultation with the ISEA president, the ISEA Board of Trustees, and the Standards Policy Committee, ISEAs technical and standards strategyExecute ISEAs annual technical and standards strategy and manage standards and product groups budgetsProvide program direction and oversight for all ISEA-administered voluntary standards including program accreditation, operations and auditing.Supervise the Standards Manager and the regular operation ofISEAs standards portfolio.Identify, execute and maintain licensed reseller agreements serving as source of non-dues based revenueServe as primary point of contact with relevant regulatory agencies and outside standards developers to influence activities that affect member business objectives.Serve as primary point of contact for all Product Groups, and coordinate the with the Standards Manager and all association staff involvement in Product Group activities.Provide training and support to product group leadersServe as staff liaison to the Standards Planning and Policy Committee.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES - MARKET DEVELOPMENTIn cooperation with the volunteer leaders, identify opportunities for standards portfolio expansion through assessment of emerging trends in product use and designGrow ISEAs Standards portfolio, as well as ISEAs influence in external Standards Development activities.Serve as a thought leader for the industry and organize regular networking for the Standards and Technology segment of the professional community.Assess and manage associations involvement in standard development undertaken by external organizationsThrough value-proposition positioning, identify and establish relationships with existing and prospective membersKNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:4-year college degree in related field.5-10 years of experience in association standards development, or technical programs. Experience in OHS related industry or advocacy preferred.Demonstrated knowledge of Standards Development processes and organizationsExcellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and manager multiple projects concurrently.Excellent communication and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse groups using tact and diplomacy.Computer and website management proficiency with a variety of software applications, (specifically, MS Office) web-based applications and working knowledge of Database Management systems.Experience managing contracted services including vendor recruitment, negotiation and evaluation.Ability to travel as required.
