Alion's Radio Frequency and Electromagnetic Spectrum Engineering Directorate (RESED) offers a variety of work, from projects supporting international satellite coordination to countering IEDs. Our work is increasingly important in a world that depends on well-coordinated, interference-free spectrum access.Alion is seeking a Systems Architect/Engineer to support the team. We are looking for a candidate who can apply our agile engineering methodology to every project, problem, and scenario, making effective use of time and money for our clients while providing full-lifecycle spectrum support. A successful candidate for this position will support complex analyses and testing efforts for the US Navy in Dahlgren, Virginia. Located in King George County near the Potomac River, Dahlgren is just 50 miles southeast of Washington DC and provides a quality work environment without the traffic and congestion of a long commute. Dahlgren's unique location offers scenic views of Virginia and access to the Washington/Richmond metropolitan areas through US Routes 3 and 301. Come work in an exciting environment offering the opportunity to provide operational impact while expanding or continuing partnership with Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).Responsibilities Using a holistic approach, designs, develops, evaluates and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle. Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics. Applies technical knowledge to assist clients in the design and development of solutions to complex technical engineering and applications problems, network challenges, or system administration issues. Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower level detailed implementation requirements. Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall product development. Designs interfaces and brings system elements together so they work as a whole Establishes the basic structure of the system, defines essential core design features and elements that provide the framework. Incorporates engineering strategies for introducing new technology into the customer's infrastructure related to its business processes of collection, analysis, production, and dissemination. Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures. Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements. Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower level detailed requirements. Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation. Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures. Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements Performs cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions; making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components. Applies knowledge of enterprise IT or engineering needs to design improved processes, generate valid requirements, and ensures that these are consistent with the customer's enterprise technical architecture. May participate in business development activitiesQualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math At least three (3) years' experience in military system development and fielding, including large-scale applications At least two (2) years' experience documenting system requirements, design specifications, installation considerations, and other system-related information At least two (2) years' experience with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), Standard Capability Maturity Model Integration(CMMI) Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI), DoD acquisition processes, and architectural products for interoperability among the DoD components Ability to communicate software concepts effectively. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in software and systems development Experience with software development tools and programming languages. US Citizenship required.
